Skateboard champion Sandro Dias broke two records by landing the highest skateboard drop ever recorded, achieving this feat in Porto Alegre, Brazil.
Okay, so I just watched this crazy thing! This 50-year-old dude actually BASE jumped – well, not exactly *jumped* – he rode down a 70-meter ramp built on the side of this government building, the Centro Administrativo Fernando Ferrari. It was a curved ramp, which made it even wilder! And get this, Guinness World Records was there to make sure it was legit. Pretty epic!
So, for this stunt, they built this ramp out of plywood, making sure it actually *fit* with the building’s design. They even put up those inflatable airbags at the bottom, just in case I messed up the landing. I was geared up too – a spine protector is a must, and Prada Linea Rossa hooked me up with some custom stuff. Gotta be safe, you know?
He set a new skateboard speed record by reaching 59 mph (95 kph) while riding down a ramp attached to the side of a building – a 65-meter drop!
The record-breaking stunt was streamed live on Red Bull TV and Red Bull’s YouTube channel.
Skateboarding legend
Dias, nicknamed the “King of the 540,” is famous for being the first Brazilian skater to land a 900 in competition. He’s also known for his daring stunts, including jumping 30 meters off the Estaiadinha Bridge in São Paulo in 2019.
In addition to his work, Dias founded the Sandro Dias Institute to help young people from difficult backgrounds get involved in skateboarding.
Dias wasn’t the only thrill-seeker setting records in September. Natisha Dingle, a professional skydiver, also broke the world record for the fastest female skydiver – actually, it was the second time she’d achieved this feat, and it happened at an event in Australia.
