Be warned, this article reveals significant spoilers for Wonder Man episode 8! The entire first season of Wonder Man was released on Disney+ at once, and while it wraps up the main story, the finale leaves a few things unanswered. Simon Williams has faced a lot of hardship, and despite possessing incredible powers, his life didn’t turn out as he expected.
With the release of the new Wonder Man movie, Williams is poised to become a major star, gaining recognition both in Hollywood and among wider audiences. However, he also reflects on the journey that brought him here, particularly the surprising friendship he developed with the often-troubled Trevor Slattery.
This sets up some exciting events in the season finale and strongly suggests we’ll see more of Simon Williams in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, before that happens, a few key issues need to be resolved.
Simon Williams Has Finally Embraced His Superhero Identity As Wonder Man
I’ve always been fascinated by Simon Williams in Wonder Man. What really struck me was how deeply afraid he was of his own powers, going all the way back to when he was a kid. The series eventually showed us that Hollywood isn’t exactly a safe place for people with abilities like his – his career, and his dreams, could have been completely ruined if anyone had discovered what he could really do.
Since finding success as Wonder Man, Simon seems much more open about his true self, something he’s always kept private. Perhaps it’s due to his financial stability or a sense of accomplishment, but he’s now ready to take big risks – even everything – to save his close friend, Trevor Slattery.
Simon pretends to be researching a new job, which allows him to secretly follow an ordinary man from the Midwest. He discovers this man actually works for the Department of Damage Control. This is all part of Simon’s plan to break Trevor out of a heavily guarded DODC prison. During the escape, Trevor surprisingly reveals he can also fly, adding to his already impressive abilities.
The Department of Defense Correctional facility establishes the DODC as a key opposing force in future storylines, particularly since they’re already set to reappear in Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
Trevor Slattery Is A Fugitive, But At Least He’s Free
Simon Williams risked a lot to save Trevor, and while he’s trying to keep his involvement a secret, several people now know the truth, potentially changing his life forever. The good news is he’s reunited with his friend, and Trevor is finally free from false accusations.
Trevor has publicly acted like a dangerous terrorist and even claimed responsibility for an explosion at a movie studio. Luckily, he has connections in Ta Lo who might offer him and Simon Williams refuge. If they do, it creates a connection to Shang-Chi and opens the door for these characters to return in future stories.
Will Wonder Man Return In Avengers: Doomsday?
While the ending of Wonder Man doesn’t explicitly promise Simon Williams’ return, it leaves the door open for him to potentially join the Avengers. As shown in the series, Simon now has a connection to Shang-Chi through a shared acquaintance, which could lead to him being recruited by Sam Wilson’s new team and helping them face villains like Doctor Doom.
If Simon can keep his secret identity as a movie star, he might be occupied with other projects and continue to hesitate using his abilities when trouble arises. Because of this, it’s currently uncertain whether Wonder Man will appear in Avengers: Doomsday.
Will There Be A Wonder Man Season 2?
Although Marvel hasn’t officially announced a second season of Wonder Man, Brad Winderbaum, a head at Marvel Television, has said it’s a possibility. Because Wonder Man is a ‘Marvel Spotlight’ series – meaning it’s a bit less focused on the main MCU storyline – it has more flexibility to continue.
Marvel Studios seems to be taking a ‘wait-and-see’ approach with its shows, deciding whether to continue them based on how well they’re received by audiences. Given that critics have already given the upcoming ‘Wonder Man’ a very positive score of 92% on Rotten Tomatoes, the show has a good chance of being renewed.
Does Wonder Man Set Up The West Coast Avengers?
Wonder Man is frequently linked to the West Coast Avengers in Marvel comics. This team is essentially a separate group of heroes based mainly in the Western United States. While Wonder Man didn’t directly create the West Coast Avengers, it’s interesting to note that he’s the fourth hero originating from California within the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Ant-Man, played by Scott Lang, was originally based in San Francisco and was a key character in the Infinity Saga. Similarly, Shang-Chi also lives in San Francisco, though he joined the story later, in the Multiverse Saga. More recently, before Simon Williams, Jennifer Walters, known as She-Hulk, worked with clients in the Los Angeles area.
The West Coast has plenty of potential for a superhero team, though it’s still uncertain if one will form. Either way, the show Wonder Man introduces a significant new hero into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
