Woman sends dog to school for expensive “personality testing” as she is too busy

A woman is paying nearly $2000 to send her dog to school instead of training him herself, claiming she doesn’t have the time. The program even includes personality assessments for the dog – it’s true!

Getting a pet is a significant decision. It requires time for things like training, walks, feeding, and playtime. Plus, pet ownership can be expensive, with unexpected vet bills and ongoing costs. While pets are incredibly rewarding, it’s important to be prepared for the financial commitment.

A woman in China, known as Taotao, is spending approximately $1700 (or £1300) each month to send her dog to a specialized care facility – essentially, ‘doggy school’.

According to the South China Morning Post, Taotao, a resident of Shanghai, chose a premium package that offers both transportation and a personality assessment.

Cheaper dog sitting options are available

The report states that Taotao, feeling she didn’t have enough time to spend with her pet, enrolled it in a dog daycare program.

Although less expensive options were available, starting around $140 and $500 per month, she chose the premium package. This included social events, personality assessments, transportation, and additional perks.

It costs the school about $30 per day simply to have someone supervise the dog, and that doesn’t include any playtime or other activities.

According to a report in the South China Morning Post, this school is very popular with pet owners and currently has a three-week waiting list. They can care for as many as 30 dogs each day.

I was pretty surprised to hear about this other ‘cat sitter’ in Shanghai, Huan Cong! He actually went viral a while back, and apparently made a whopping $23,000 just looking after cats during the Lunar New Year. It makes my side hustle seem a little small, honestly!
