Woman joins Zoom court hearing while driving and insists she’s not behind the wheel

A woman became an internet sensation after she accidentally appeared in a Zoom court hearing while driving. At first, she claimed she wasn’t driving, but she later admitted it was a mistake.

The incident happened during an online court hearing in Michigan. Kimberly Carroll joined the hearing late, and when asked to turn on her camera, it showed she was a passenger in a car that was moving.

Judge calls out woman before she admits “poor judgment”

When the hearing began, Judge Michael McNally expressed his disbelief at what he was witnessing, asking the woman, “You shouldn’t be driving. What’s going on?”

Carroll initially claimed she wasn’t driving, stating she was just a passenger. However, she was visibly sitting in the driver’s seat, and the judge noted her seatbelt was positioned as if she were the driver.

Instead of identifying the driver as requested, she exited the car. This led the judge to question her honesty, saying, “Do you really think I wouldn’t notice that you were being dishonest?”

The court ruled against her because she didn’t respond to the case, even though she claimed she was driving when she was supposed to appear and therefore hadn’t intentionally ignored it.

After the video went viral, Carroll admitted he made a mistake in a statement to Fox2 Detroit. He said driving during a Zoom court hearing was bad judgment and he apologized for it.

She explained that she reacted impulsively and didn’t stop or reschedule, and she apologized for what she did.

She also expressed concern about how quickly the incident went viral, explaining that it had damaged her reputation, impacted her family, and made it harder to move on with her life.

It’s not the first instance of someone driving during a virtual court appearance. Back in 2024, Corey Harris gained attention after he called into his hearing – about a suspended license, ironically – while actually driving.
