Despite starting strong on Steam with high engagement numbers, Wolcen: Lords of Mayhem wasn’t able to hold up over time and has now concluded. The developers behind the game have moved onto a new venture, which they revealed yesterday. Here you can see the first trailer for their upcoming project, currently known as Project Pantheon.

In this rephrased version, I aimed to maintain the original meaning while making it more conversational and easier to read.

A mix of Diablo and EfT

It seems that Wolcen Studio intends to stay within the hack’n’slash genre, but with a twist – they aim to broaden its horizons by integrating features from games like Escape from Tarkov and Dark and Darker. This unique blend has resulted in what the developers call an “Action RPG with Survival Elements,” or simply an “ExtrAction RPG.

The fusion of the intense battle sequences from action RPGs, like Diablo, with the suspenseful play dynamics of extraction shooters, such as Escape From Tarkov, is what makes Project Pantheon an exciting new gaming experience. We can’t wait to see how our players respond!

Our journey kicks off right at the base camp, a place where we’ll fine-tune our gear for the upcoming adventure. This preparatory phase allows us to enhance our base, opening up more possibilities. Then, we’ll venture into one of several distinct terrains, each offering treasures and obstacles to conquer.

From here, we’ll initiate our journey, battling our path past monsters and opponents, gathering loot as we go. Our ultimate goal is to find a secure spot for retreat. The equipment we pick up will be adapted to enhance our character or sold to other players based on our requirements.

In essence, just like in EfT, death results in losing both your accumulated treasures and gear. This could be likened to a challenging mode found in games such as PoE or Diablo. However, unlike those games, your character remains alive, allowing you to carry on playing with it. This setup should feel familiar for fans of extraction shooters.

On Saturday, January 25th, you’ll get a chance to witness if this genre blend is a hit, as Project Pantheon‘s closed alpha tests commence. These tests will endure for just one day and are exclusive to a limited number of participants. If you wish to join, be sure to register on the official game website.
