The film ‘Wicked’ is expected to be a big success in theaters, but the lead actors disagree about the possibility of making a sequel.
The movie Wicked is based on the popular stage musical of the same name. That musical was originally inspired by Gregory Maguire’s 1995 novel, which itself drew from the stories of L. Frank Baum and the classic 1939 film, The Wizard of Oz.
Originally planned as one movie, Universal Pictures divided the story into two parts, splitting it roughly halfway through. The first film was a huge success in 2024, and the second, titled Wicked for Good, is being released this week. Experts predict it will earn between $195 and $235 million worldwide during its opening weekend.
People are already talking positively about the film, as our review highlighted its success in blending music, dance, action, romance, and superhero excitement. However, this strong reaction doesn’t automatically guarantee a third movie will be made.
What the stars are saying about Wicked 3

During a discussion about the show Wicked, a panel mentioned the possibility of the current cast going on a farewell tour. Ariana Grande, who plays Glinda, shared a clip of the panel on Instagram and reacted with interest to the idea.
Grande responded to the idea of a ‘farewell tour’ by pointing out that Cher has proven artists often announce multiple farewell tours. She joked that it likely means she and her team aren’t going anywhere anytime soon.
The host pressed Grande about whether a third Wicked movie was planned, but she didn’t give a clear answer. She explained that the release of the first two films will bring a sense of resolution, allowing audiences to understand the complete story of the characters.
The new movie ‘Wicked: For Good’ is expected to earn between $195 million and $230 million worldwide during its opening weekend, according to Luiz Fernando Jr.

Bowen Yang, who plays Pfannee in the upcoming Wicked films, quickly dismissed the possibility of a third movie, comparing it to Dorothy famously dousing the Wicked Witch of the West with water.
At the Wicked premiere in Los Angeles, Variety asked Yang about the possibility of a third installment. Yang seemed to indicate they were finished with the story, saying, “I think we leave it here.” They then jokingly suggested a spin-off series focused on their character and Bronwyn James’ character, referencing the play Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead.
The movie Wicked for Good arrives in theaters on Friday, November 21st. After that, we’ll add details to this article about how the film ends and what it might mean for a potential Wicked 3. In the meantime, you can see TopMob’s picks for the best movies of 2025.
