The Pokémon Company just released a new 10-minute trailer for Pokémon Pokopia, a quirky game similar to Animal Crossing. In this game, you play as a Ditto who can transform into a human! You’ll be able to make friends with wild Pokémon, grow plants, and build things. The game is scheduled to come out on March 5th, 2026, and this trailer is the first in-depth look at the gameplay. The trailer’s ending has sparked speculation among fans about whether some Pokémon might have new forms in the game. While The Pokémon Company hasn’t confirmed everything yet, here’s a summary of what we’ve learned.
Will Pokémon Pokopia introduce new forms of other Pokémon? Here’s what we know
The idea of Pokémon having different appearances and abilities depending on the region isn’t new. It started with games like Pokémon Sun and Moon, which featured regional versions of Pokémon like Marowak and Exeggutor. This trend of reimagining older Pokémon with new designs and types continued in later games like Sword and Shield, Legends: Arceus, and Scarlet and Violet. Now, fans are wondering if the upcoming Pokémon Pokopia will also include similar regional variations or a related concept.
The trailer concluded by showcasing three possible new Pokémon variations. These included a Smeargle decorated with vibrant paint splatters, a ghostly, pale Pikachu with floppy ears, and a Snorlax covered in moss with a flower blooming on its head. The Pokopia website later revealed the names of these Pokémon: Smearguru for the painted Smeargle, Mosslax for the moss-covered Snorlax, and Peakychu for the ghostly Pikachu. While the website offers more information about these forms, it doesn’t yet detail any changes to their types, abilities, or how they’ll function in the game.

It’s possible that Smearguru is a new evolution of Smeargle and Mosslax is a Grass-type version of Snorlax, but I’m not sure that’s right. Based on what we’ve seen of Pokémon Pokopia, it doesn’t look like battling will be a part of the game. If that’s true, things like stats, abilities, and even Pokémon types probably won’t matter much. The trailer also introduced Professor Tangrowth, which makes me think these other Pokémon are more likely to be unique characters you interact with, rather than new evolutions or forms that you’ll use in battles. I believe they’re new characters created specifically for Pokopia, not entirely new Pokémon species.
This is all just guesswork at this point. We still have a lot to learn about Pokémon Pokopia. We’ll need to wait for more details about these possible Pokémon forms, and also find out if the game will even include Pokémon battles. Right now, battles don’t seem to fit with the game’s overall style.
