The popular musical film “Wicked” is set to soar into households on New Year’s Eve, offering an abundance of cut scenes, commentaries, and additional features.
On December 31, 2024, you’ll be able to buy or rent the Universal Pictures movie featuring Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande, which previously played in theaters. This digital release will also come with special features such as a sing-along version, a 40-minute behind-the-scenes look at Oz that highlights the film’s enchanting on-screen transformations, and other additional content.
Across the United States, the movie “Wicked” can be purchased digitally from various platforms like Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, Fandango at Home (previously known as Vudu), Comcast Xfinity, Cox, and Microsoft Movies & TV, starting from its release date. Additionally, on February 4, 2025, “Wicked” will be made available in 4K UHD, Blu-ray, and DVD formats.
The movie adaptation of ‘Wicked’ broke the record for the highest opening gross among Broadway-based films, earning a total of $392 million domestically so far. It was nominated for four Golden Globes, including best motion picture – musical or comedy, and acting recognition for Erivo and Grande. Adapted from the stage play with music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz, ‘Wicked’ is directed by Jon M. Chu. In addition to Cynthia Erivo, Ariana Grande, and Cynthia Erivo, the film features Michelle Yeoh, Jonathan Bailey, Ethan Slater, Marissa Bode, Peter Dinklage, and Jeff Goldblum.
Just recently, Universal Pictures declared a title change for the follow-up film titled “Wicked: For Good”. This upcoming movie, based on the second half of the hit Broadway play, is slated to premiere in cinemas on November 21, 2025.
