Why ‘The Ninth Jedi’ Is The Perfect Star Wars Episode X Story

The new Star Wars show focusing on the Jedi feels like the continuation the tenth Star Wars movie should have been. Of the Star Wars TV series currently in development, Ahsoka season 2 is the only live-action one that hasn’t been released yet.

For the first time since 2019, the focus of Star Wars will shift back to theatrical releases rather than TV series. Despite this change, Lucasfilm is still creating new animated Star Wars shows, and several of them are generating a lot of excitement.

The latest season of Star Wars: Visions is now available on Disney+. Notably, two episodes from the series will be expanded into a new Star Wars TV show focused on the Jedi. Considering this, it seems like this new show would have been a perfect story for the next installment in the Skywalker Saga, Episode X.

Star Wars: Visions’ “The Ninth Jedi” Is The Perfect Post-Rise Of Skywalker Story

The fifth episode of Star Wars: Visions season 1, called “The Ninth Jedi,” got a follow-up in season 3. Now, Star Wars: Visions Presents – The Ninth Jedi will be a complete animated series, continuing the story that began in the Visions episodes. This story fits particularly well into the Star Wars timeline following the events of The Rise of Skywalker.

The story centers around Kara, whose father, Lah Zhima, is a lightsaber maker. In the first season of Star Wars: Visions, Lah is seen crafting lightsabers for the last seven Jedi in the galaxy. Jedi Master Margrave Juro invited these Jedi to a floating base near the planet where Lah and Kara live.

While escaping a Sith attack that captured Lah, Kara managed to grab some lightsabers and reach Juro’s hideout. There, Juro gave one of the lightsabers to Ethan, a promising young Jedi. But a shocking reveal followed: the six other Jedi who arrived were actually secret Sith, intent on destroying all remaining Jedi.

Ethan, Juro, and Kara managed to defeat five Sith warriors. This led the final Sith, Homen, to give up and regret his actions. Because of this victory, Kara was hailed as “The Ninth Jedi” – a title referencing the original eight Jedi, including Ethan, Homen, and Juro. The four of them then embarked on a mission to rescue Kara’s father from a planet controlled by the Sith.

Season 3 of Star Wars: Visions followed Kara after she became separated from her friends. She teamed up with a droid named Teto, and eventually found her way back to Juro, Ethan, and Homen to resume their search for Lah. The story will continue in Star Wars: Visions Presents – The Ninth Jedi.

The episode “The Ninth Jedi” from Star Wars: Visions was the most popular with fans. Its compelling characters, fresh interpretation of Star Wars history, exciting action, quality animation, and strong voice acting all contributed to its success. This is why a sequel was made in Star Wars: Visions season 3, and why it’s getting its own dedicated show.

The story has clearly struck a chord with both Star Wars fans and critics. It’s now obvious that this narrative would have been a better fit as the next installment in the Skywalker Saga, instead of the planned trilogy by Simon Kinberg or the movie focusing on Rey’s new Jedi Order.

Information about these projects has been limited, suggesting that a well-developed story like “The Ninth Jedi” might have been a stronger choice.

“The Ninth Jedi” Is Not Canon, But It Could Very Well Have Been

Like all episodes of Star Wars: Visions, “The Ninth Jedi” isn’t considered part of the official Star Wars storyline from the movies or TV shows. The upcoming Star Wars: Visions Presents – The Ninth Jedi will also be a standalone story, existing on its own. However, the story could have been adapted to fit within established Star Wars canon.

One idea is to combine the “Ninth Jedi” concept with the existing plan for Rey to create a new Jedi Order. For example, the next movie could begin with Kara and her father living on a planet where the father is building lightsabers for a secretive Jedi Master who is trying to rebuild the Order as the Sith become more powerful.

The Jedi Master appearing in the new films could have been Rey Skywalker, shown 15 to 25 years after The Rise of Skywalker, similar to the plan for her upcoming movie about building a new Jedi Order. The initial film could have focused on a straightforward rescue mission: Rey, along with a character named Kara, and other Jedi saving Kara’s father from the Sith and bounty hunters. This story could then have been developed further in Episodes XI and XII.

Rey had the potential to create a new and thriving Jedi Order, expanding on the connections she made in the final movie. This is just one way the idea of a ‘Ninth Jedi’ could have fit into the official Star Wars story. Had this path been taken, Disney had a strong opportunity to create a new trilogy that, looking back, likely would have been very popular with fans.

The Ninth Jedi Show Will Feel Like The Episode IX Sequel We Never Got

If Star Wars: Visions Presents – The Ninth Jedi follows the expected storyline of Kara, Ethan, Homen, and Juro restoring the Jedi Order to battle the Sith, it will closely resemble what a sequel – or sequels – to The Rise of Skywalker might have been. Essentially, The Ninth Jedi will feel like the continuation of that film that we either haven’t seen, or are still waiting for.

Since the release of The Rise of Skywalker in 2019, Star Wars has increasingly concentrated on television shows. This shift happened because the sequel trilogy received a lot of criticism, and Lucasfilm decided to prioritize stories that audiences would enjoy, such as The Mandalorian, Ahsoka, and Andor, instead of continuing the storylines that proved so divisive.

This clarifies why we haven’t seen any follow-up movies to Episode IX. While Rey’s new Jedi Order and a planned trilogy from Simon Kinberg were both discussed as potential continuations over six years ago, neither project is any further along in development now than when they were first revealed.

Consider The Ninth Jedi a continuation of the story begun in The Rise of Skywalker. It delivers everything fans expect from Star Wars, feeling like a natural part of the established universe and expanding on the galaxy’s future after the events of the film.
