Why Tashigi Looks So Much Like Zoro’s Childhood Friend In One Piece Season 2

Season 2 of One Piece introduces Tashigi, a character who bears a striking resemblance to Zoro’s friend from his past. The season continues to explore Zoro’s ambition – established at the end of season 1 – to become the world’s best swordsman. A significant change from the original manga shows Zoro relentlessly pursuing this goal, motivated by visions of his former opponent, Mihawk.

The end of One Piece season 2 showed Zoro facing off against King Wapol’s robots, hinting at more challenges to come. In season 3, Zoro and the Straw Hat crew will work to free Vivi’s kingdom of Arabasta from the organization known as Baroque Works, giving Zoro many chances to improve his swordsmanship.

Zoro is doing all of this to keep a promise he made to his childhood friend, Kuina. In the first season of One Piece, it was revealed that Zoro and Kuina both dreamed of becoming the world’s greatest swordspeople. After Kuina tragically passed away, Zoro took on the responsibility of fulfilling that dream for both of them, wanting to honor her memory.

During the second season of One Piece, Zoro briefly remembers Kuina when he meets a new character named Tashigi. Because they look so much alike, Zoro initially thinks Tashigi is Kuina. This moment makes viewers wonder if their similar appearances are just a coincidence, or if there’s a hidden connection between them.

One Piece’s Resemblance Between Tashigi & Kuina Appears To Be A Coincidence

Zoro initially thought Tashigi looked like Kuina, suggesting a possible connection between them. However, it seems their similar appearance is just a coincidence. Season 2 on Netflix doesn’t suggest any real significance to Tashigi having Kuina’s blue hair and features; it’s likely just an Easter egg referencing Zoro’s past.

If the ongoing manga is any indication, the live-action show doesn’t appear to be hiding any deeper connections between characters. The One Piece manga is still being written, and after over 1000 chapters, there’s still been no significant revealed link between Tashigi and Kuina.

The connection between these characters is likely just a coincidence. In terms of storytelling, Tashigi acts as a contrast to Zoro. As seen in season 2 of One Piece, she’s initially impressed by his swordsmanship, but feels deceived when she discovers his association with the Straw Hat Pirates.

This discovery motivates Tashigi to improve her swordsmanship, hoping to eventually defeat Zoro. In a way, she carries on Kuina’s role as a rival to Zoro, but their relationship is different. Kuina and Zoro pushed each other to get better in a positive, mutually beneficial way. Tashigi’s rivalry with Zoro, however, is much more competitive and hostile.

Despite sharing a similar look, the connection between Tashigi and Kuina remains unconfirmed. While fans have speculated they might be related, it currently appears to be just a coincidence within the story of One Piece.

The One Piece Manga Could Still Reveal A Deeper Reason Behind Tashigi’s Appearance

As a long-time One Piece fan, I still hold out hope that the series will connect Tashigi’s character to Kuina somehow. With the final saga already underway and expected to run for several more years, there’s definitely still a chance! Because Tashigi is still appearing in these later arcs, Oda has plenty of room to explore the significance of their shared appearance and reveal a deeper connection between them – and honestly, I’m really hoping he does!

It’s still uncertain if these connections will become significant. As of now, the resemblances between Tashigi and Kuina seem like simple chance, as highlighted in the second season of One Piece.
