The final season of Yellowjackets is adding some fantastic new faces! Molly Ringwald and June Squibb are joining the cast. Ringwald will play Van’s mother, who is working to overcome alcoholism and repair her relationships – a tough journey, to say the least. It’s unclear if she’ll be playing the younger or older version of the mom, but many fans are hoping for the younger role, considering the age difference between Ringwald and Lauren Ambrose (who plays adult Van) is only ten years. Plus, given the show’s events, a scene between them might be tricky! As for June Squibb, her role is still a secret, but she’s proven she can handle any physical challenges, as seen in Thelma.
The creators of Yellowjackets, Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson, revealed in October that the upcoming fourth season will be the show’s last. While they initially envisioned a five-season arc, plans changed during development. According to Lyle, they’ve explored most of the 80s and 90s Hollywood figures they wanted to feature. The final season will focus heavily on the Yellowjackets’ rescue and their struggles to return to normal life. Speaking with the Los Angeles Times, Lyle explained that the characters have been profoundly changed by their time in the wilderness, especially considering their young ages and how easily they were influenced. The show will delve into how these altered individuals attempt to adjust to a world that now feels both significant and strangely unfamiliar.
