So, I just heard about the Halo 1 remake coming to PlayStation, which is awesome! But it’s kinda weird – they’re saying it’s only the campaign. No multiplayer at all? I’m a huge fan, and honestly, a big part of what made the original Halo so special was the multiplayer. I’m really curious why they decided to leave that out of the remake.
So, the head of the project, Damon Conn, explained it on Xbox Wire. Basically, they’re really doubling down on making the story mode amazing. They want to nail that feeling the original campaign gave us – that atmosphere, the tone, and just the overall emotional punch of it all. They feel that by focusing on the campaign, they can really make it something special again.
The new Halo: Campaign Evolved doesn’t have multiplayer, but it does include some additions not found in the original 2001 game, like three new story missions that take place before the main events, and the ability to sprint. Built using Unreal Engine 5, this release is expected to be followed by a completely new Halo game designed as a live service.
We wanted to revisit the very first Halo campaign, the one that really established the series,” Conn explained. “Beginning with that original story allows new players to jump in and understand everything from the start, which will help us create future Halo stories that build on that foundation.
