Why Beloved X-Men Actor Doesn’t Want To Be in Avengers: Doomsday

Famke Janssen, known for playing Jean Grey in the original X-Men films, has said she won’t be appearing in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday movie. Despite several of her former X-Men colleagues returning for the Marvel film, Janssen has stated that Marvel Studios never reached out to her about reprising her role.

Famke Janssen elaborates on not being in Avengers: Doomsday

Famke Janssen recently explained to Kristian Harloff why she declined to reprise her role as her X-Men character in the movie Avengers: Doomsday.

During an interview, Harloff questioned Janssen about the possibility of reprising her role as Jean Grey in future Avengers films. Janssen responded that she generally focuses on new challenges rather than revisiting past work. She explained that her recent experiences – including being an executive producer and costume designer on ‘Amsterdam Empire,’ and creating a music video where she sings and dances – have expanded her interests. Because of this, revisiting a role with limited screen time simply doesn’t appeal to her right now.

Janssen explained she wouldn’t expect to be invited back to a project if her contributions were limited like that, as the creators are looking for something different from her. She’s hoping for roles that allow more creative input, but she also enjoys being part of a team and isn’t against taking on roles simply for the fun of it.

In an October 2025 interview with Entertainment Weekly, Famke Janssen revealed she’s constantly asked about a potential appearance in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’. She joked that no matter what else she discusses in interviews, that’s all anyone seems to focus on and report.
