The new Battlefield Redsec game has faced some criticism, with players noting the lack of a solo playlist. However, a solo mode might be added in the future.
Design director Justin Wiebe hinted to IGN that solo game modes might be coming in the future, saying players should stay tuned for updates. However, he first wanted to explain why the game currently doesn’t have a dedicated playlist for solo play.
Wiebe explained that Redsec was originally designed for team play, making it surprisingly difficult to add a solos mode. He emphasized it’s not a simple feature to enable; it requires more than just flipping a switch.
Wiebe explained that careful consideration is needed in development because the game is built around teamwork. It was fundamentally designed for players to operate in squads, utilizing unique tactical skills and customizable progression systems. Many of the unlockable benefits focus on supporting the team rather than individual performance.
If we simply removed that element and told players they could now play solos and unlock abilities they don’t even care about, that would be a mistake.
Wiebe explained that if Redsec created a solos playlist, it would need to be designed carefully. It should improve the gameplay experience by properly utilizing the game’s mechanics to make solos mode more enjoyable.
Currently, Redsec lets players team up in groups of two or four with its Duos and Squads playlists. The Gauntlet mode also allows for four-player teams.
Battlefield 6’s first season continues with the California Resistance update, launching on November 18th. This update includes a new map called Eastwood, along with other additions.
