Sebastian Stan is likely joining Robert Pattinson in the next Batman movie, alongside stars like Scarlett Johansson, Andy Serkis, and Jeffrey Wright. This would make him one of the rare actors to appear in both Marvel and DC films, as he’s famous for his role as Bucky Barnes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Now, everyone’s wondering what character Stan will play in the sequel.
Four years ago, Matt Reeves released a film that reimagined Bruce Wayne (played by Robert Pattinson) as a younger, more intense hero. The movie presented a dark and modern story where Batman uncovers a web of corruption and lies, ultimately connecting the villain, the Riddler (Paul Dano), to his own family history.
For years, fans have eagerly awaited a sequel to The Batman, and were disappointed when news came that it was delayed until 2027. The situation became so frustrating that James Gunn, a co-chairman of DC Studios, had to ask fans to stop bothering director Matt Reeves with questions about the film’s progress.
Fortunately, the upcoming sequel has been progressing well lately, starting with the announcement of Johansson’s involvement in early December. Now, fans are speculating about what role Stan will play in The Batman Part II, and one source may have already leaked the information.
Who Sebastian Stan might be playing in The Batman 2
BREAKING: Sebastian Stan joins THE BATMAN PART II!
— Jeff Sneider (@TheInSneider) January 6, 2026
On January 6th, Jeff Sneider revealed that Sebastian Stan will be portraying Harvey Dent, who eventually becomes Two-Face, in the sequel to The Batman. This casting aligns with director Matt Reeves’ vision for Gotham City, which draws heavily from the comic book series The Long Halloween. That story details the origins of Two-Face, specifically how he gets his scars when acid is thrown at him in court by Sal Maroni.
Currently, Reeves isn’t sharing any details about the story for The Batman 2. However, if actor Barry Keoghan is indeed playing Harvey Dent, he’s likely to undergo a dark and disturbing change as the character. A bigger challenge for Reeves and writer Mattson Tomlin is creating a sequel that feels distinct from Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight, which also drew inspiration from the The Long Halloween comic.
The 2008 movie featured Aaron Eckhart as Harvey Dent, who later becomes Two-Face. His transformation happens after the Joker kidnaps him, causes severe burns to half of his face with gasoline, and an explosion occurs.
According to recent reports, Stan won’t be the only bad guy in the movie. Sources say Barry Keoghan will return as the Joker, but it’s unknown if he’ll still be in Arkham Asylum or if he’ll escape to create trouble in Gotham.
