Blumhouse is adapting The Exorcism at 1600 Penn comics into a movie
I’m really excited to hear that James Wan’s Atomic Monster and Jason Blum’s Blumhouse are making a movie out of ‘The Exorcism at 1600 Penn’! I loved that comic book series – it was created and written by Hannah Rose May and originally published by IDW. The artwork was incredible too, thanks to Vanesa Del Rey’s illustrations and Jordie Bellaire’s coloring. I can’t wait to see how they bring that story to the big screen.
This comic book series centers on Kelly Doyle, the first female president of the United States, who faces a terrifying ordeal: demonic possession while also dealing with the pressures of leading the country, navigating the media landscape, and raising a family. Jason Blum’s Blumhouse is producing the series, with Ryan Turek, Hannah Rose May, and Davidi Jonas of IDW serving as executive producers. A follow-up comic, ‘The Exorcism at Buckingham Palace,’ continues the story.
Blumhouse executive Ryan Turek told Deadline they were immediately captivated by the story’s realistic and pressing nature. He praised Hannah’s ability to blend traditional possession horror with current political themes in a fresh and relatable way. Turek explained that the project perfectly aligns with Blumhouse’s goal of exploring new directions in horror, and they’re eager to find a director who can deliver a compelling and impactful film.
Hannah Rose May expressed her excitement about collaborating with Blumhouse to bring “The Exorcism at 1600 Penn” to the big screen, calling it a dream come true. She praised Blumhouse’s influence on modern horror and thanked her partners at IDW for their dedication to sharing the story globally (via Deadline).
