This guide will show you how to finish the ‘March of the Dead‘ quest in Where Winds Meet, including tips for defeating Zhu Yousheng.

In the game, ‘March of the Dead’ is a side quest found in the Granary of Plenty area of Kaifeng, part of the ‘Jianghu Legacy’ storyline. You’ll encounter this region fairly early in the Kaifeng section of the game, but the quest isn’t immediately obvious – you’ll need to actively search for clues by checking notice boards, talking to NPCs, and exploring to discover it.
You can begin the March of the Dead quest when you arrive in Kaifeng. First, go to the Granary of Plenty and look at the bounty board – this will give you your first clue. Then, find the ruined temple close by. The quest officially starts when you enter the temple and search inside. You’ll quickly encounter and defeat a small group of Unbound Cavern members. After that, you’ll hear new rumours about mysterious figures seen near the Ghostlight Market.
The game guides you towards a special lantern called Sword Horizon, beginning your quest to find it.
How To Complete March of the Dead in Where Winds Meet
The March of the Dead side quest involves a few steps and requires some backtracking. As you follow Sword Horizon, look for a treasure chest containing three items: the Mountain Armor, Battle Helmet, and Iron Spear.
After you get those items, change the game’s clock to the hour of Mao. This is crucial because the Ghostlight Market shuts down then, and that’s when the ghostly parade will appear. If you don’t set the time correctly, you won’t see it.

Okay, so I went back to the marker and gave them the stuff they needed. As a reward, I got this awesome ghost armor! I immediately put it on because it’s supposed to hide my energy signature, which is key. It lets me follow these spooky ghost soldiers without them noticing me and starting a fight, which is perfect. I’m sticking close and trying to be super quiet as they walk, and they’re actually leading me to this secret ghost gate. Once I go through that, it’s the final area, and time to get ready to face Zhu Yousheng – the boss! Wish me luck!
Boss Fight: Zhu Yousheng
Zhu Yousheng relies on timing-heavy patterns. You deal with two colour cues:
- Red swings can be parried perfectly to counter.
- Gold swings must be dodged fully.
Blocking his attacks is key, as it lowers his energy. Once his energy is gone, he’ll be vulnerable, letting you inflict a lot of damage. Make the most of this opening and use your strongest attack at the very end for maximum impact.
Lock-on makes it easier to follow enemies, but you can disable it if it feels restrictive. Using a healing weapon as your secondary provides a little extra protection during challenging encounters.
Once he falls, talk to the Nine Mortal Ways disciples nearby to finish the quest.
