Where Winds Meet Guide – 15 Best Tips and Tricks

Wuxia games are often challenging, and it usually takes time and effort to become skilled enough to confidently fight and explore. Where Winds Meet is especially ambitious, and doesn’t explain many of its features, leaving players to figure things out on their own.

I’m loving how free and exploratory the game feels! But I’ve also been digging around and found a few things you can look for right away, and some really cool tricks that can save you a ton of time. Let’s jump in and see what I’ve discovered!

1. Grab Ghost Bind and Dragon’s Head

These two magical abilities complement each other, giving you control over the flow of battle and letting you deal damage how and when you want, no matter what weapons you’re using. Ghost Bind briefly freezes enemies, temporarily removing the danger they pose.

The Dragon’s Head ability allows you to use nearby leaves and dust to launch a powerful, dragon-like attack. It creates a wide sweeping blow that pushes enemies back, giving you breathing room and disrupting their attacks.

This ability helps you create space when you’re overwhelmed by enemies. It pairs especially well with Ghost Bind, letting you handle groups effectively with damage reduction and increased defense, making them a strong combination in tough situations.

2. Rain Down Fire From the Shadows

If you prefer a sneaky playstyle, the Veil of Stillness is a powerful Mystic Art. When activated, it allows you to become virtually invisible, letting you move through enemy areas undetected.

If a fight starts, it’s helpful to have a strong attack ready. That’s where the Flaming Meteor comes in handy. Its spear attack deals a lot of damage to tough enemies, and the meteor slam can stun them, giving you a chance to attack or slip back into hiding, depending on what you need to do.

3. Skip Waiting For Objectives

While exploring and accepting quests, you’ll sometimes discover that you need to wait for a specific time of day – either daytime or nighttime – before you can continue. Luckily, like in many open-world RPGs, you can speed up time to move forward with the quest when you’re ready.

To change the time in the game, just open the clock menu and move the slider to the time you want. It would have been helpful to know this feature existed from the start, but figuring it out was actually pretty fun!

4. Get the Lay of the Land

When you arrive in a new area, the game will suggest someone to talk to who can help you learn about it. While you’re free to explore on your own, if you’re eager to understand the region and its story, it’s a good idea to seek out this person first.

If you chat with this person, they’ll give you maps of the area. Seriously, these maps are a lifesaver – they help you figure out where everything is and spot interesting places to check out. As a gamer, I always say it’s good to have a plan before you go running off to be a hero, and these maps are a big part of that!

5. Get A Horse Soon

Reaching the peak of your abilities will take effort and require a lot of exploration. Luckily, you won’t have to do it all on foot – you can acquire a horse relatively early in the game to help you get around quickly.

You have two options for getting a horse: you could simply take one, but that could lead to trouble later. Or, you could use your skills to subtly convince the owner to let go of the horse. Either way, it’s best to avoid crowds to keep things discreet and protect your good name.

6. Unlock Fast Travel Points

Many open-world games benefit from quick travel, and Where Winds Meet is no different. Whenever you discover a new teleport point, be sure to unlock it. The game has a lot to offer, and being able to easily return to previously explored areas will be very helpful.

It’s always good to be able to get back to a place quickly, because you never know when you might need to return, or be nearby.

7. The Wanted System

Okay, so one of the coolest parts of this game is how it reacts to everything you do – especially if you’re causing trouble! You can actually make money by putting bounties on other players, which is awesome. But be warned: if you start messing with the NPCs or their stuff, you’ll quickly have a bounty on your head if you’re not careful. Basically, actions have consequences, and people will come looking for you!

If you put a bounty on yourself, both NPCs like the police and other players will start hunting you. Other players will have a short window to join your world and try to collect the reward, and you can hunt them too! But bringing friends along can quickly shift the advantage, as opponents might assume you’re facing this challenge alone. It creates a really fun and exciting chase!

8. Upgrade Your Martial Arts

The game has a lot to offer, but upgrading your martial arts skills can get costly. It’s smart to focus on a few skills you really like early on, try out different combinations, and then perfect your favorite setup as you collect more resources.

After that, you can easily get your money back for the Arts you originally tried, and then focus on fully upgrading the ones you really want to use. This system also gives you the freedom to experiment with different combinations of Arts and fighting styles.

9. Take on a Career

Beyond choosing a character class, you can specialize in a vocation like Healer or Scholar, each offering unique quests. When you play online, you’ll also get to actively use your skills, and even help other players when they need it.

Healers mend injuries, and Scholars assist with the game’s complicated mechanics. Picking a support role that matches your playstyle will enhance your overall experience.

10. Join A Guild ASAP

In Where Winds Meet, joining a Guild early on is really helpful. Guilds give you access to a base where you can craft items, make medicines and potions, shop at the Store, and relax between adventures.

The game truly shines with its online features. Each week brings new missions and special dungeons that you can only tackle with your guild, offering valuable rewards. Joining a guild early on is a smart move, as you’ll also gain currency just by being a member.

11. Understand the PvP System

This game is built to let you experiment and find your own fighting style as you prepare to face powerful opponents in the wuxia world. Practice modes, like the 1v1 arena, are perfect for testing out your skills – you can even spar with a friend!

To succeed, it’s helpful to learn all the different ways characters can behave in a game and develop several ways to react. You’ll face skilled opponents who attack consistently, and being able to counter with your own attacks will prevent a lot of frustration.

12. Learn How Internal Arts Work

In addition to your weapon-based Martial Arts, you can equip four Internal Arts. These Arts can either be used in any situation or provide benefits related to specific combat skills, giving you an edge in battle.

Choosing the right four Martial Arts sets is important because they need to work well together, and you have eight options to choose from. Think about whether you need more attack power or defense, and don’t be afraid to change your setup depending on the situation to get the most out of them.

13. Hidden Requirements For Gear

Don’t worry if you find a weapon or piece of gear you can’t use right away! It just means you haven’t progressed enough in the game’s open world to unlock the necessary skills. You’ll need to complete more activities to improve three key attributes before you can equip those items.

You can increase your character’s strength by capturing enemy bases. To improve your Erudition, interact with the golden butterflies you find while exploring. And you can boost your Coordination by completing cat puzzles scattered throughout the world.

14. The Progression Tracker

If you like to fully complete games, the in-game journal helps you keep track of everything you still need to do in each location. It shows you any unfinished side quests, main story missions, items to collect, bosses to defeat, and any other tasks you need to finish to make sure you haven’t missed anything.

This one works very well in tandem with our next tip.

15. Explore the World And Rejoice

Where Winds Meet is most enjoyable when you explore freely and let the story unfold naturally. Straying from the main path often leads to rewarding discoveries, and completing side quests and investigating mysteries can yield surprising benefits.

This game really encourages players to uncover its hidden secrets, and that’s actually the most fun way to play it – it’s how Everstone intended the experience to be.

That concludes our beginner’s guide to becoming a master in Where Winds Meet. We hope you have as much fun playing the game as we had creating it!
