I was really surprised while playing Pokémon Pokopia when Magikarp unexpectedly started singing a cheerful song about staying positive.

Okay, so even though everyone makes fun of Magikarp, it’s actually super important! It’s the Pokémon that teaches you how to Jump! I was so surprised – that seemingly useless Pokémon actually has a purpose. And let me tell you, this jump isn’t just a little hop; it makes getting around Pokémon Pokopia way smoother and more natural than just your character’s regular jump. It’s a total game-changer for exploring!
Being able to jump really helps you get around and explore, letting you dig underground and uncover hidden things.
Okay, so as a fellow trainer, one of the first things I always wonder is where to even find a Magikarp! And then, once you’ve caught one, figuring out how to get it to learn Jump is super important. Let’s break down both of those things.
Where to Find Magikarp in Pokémon Pokopia
From the game’s starting area, turn around and head towards the little cave structure.
Look for light brown rocks on the wall – they’re prepared to be broken with the Rock Smash move.
In order to learn Rock Smash, you’ll need to talk to discover and then talk to Hitmonchan.
Break them open, and you’ll gain access to a new area by the ocean.
Head to the ocean and you’ll find a Magikarp, flopping around as usual. Luckily, it’s feeling chatty today!
How to Learn Jump in Pokémon Pokopia
Magikarp is unhappy, as it’s looking for a habitat to make its home. That’s where you come in.
Magikarp will officially ask you to create a fishing spot by the ocean. To do this, you’ll need to gather these three items:
- 1 Fishing rod
- 1 Seat (of any kind)
- Ocean water nearby
Luckily, there’s plenty of ocean water close by, so you won’t have to worry about finding any. You can also find a fishing rod nearby. All you need now is a place to sit – you can craft a log chair at the crafting station if you have a single small log.
In order to make the Log chair, all you need is one small log.
Once you finish building the habitat, Magikarp will thank you by teaching you the Jump ability! Now you can jump to your heart’s content! The best part? Jumping doesn’t use any energy – it’s completely free! Just press the R button to jump.
