What are the characteristics of Alpha Pokemon?
- Alpha Pokemon have glowing red eyes and are highly aggressive. They tend to beeline for your character even if you have an active Pokemon by your side.
- They are significantly larger compared to regular variants. You can see a size comparison in the images below.
- They are at a significantly higher level compared to other critters in a Wild Zone.
- They might have unlocked a specific move that’s not normally learned through leveling up.
- Alpha Pokemon also have a unique red icon on their nameplate that looks like the face of a monster/boss.
Alpha Pokemon in free-roam areas
In Pokemon Legends: Z-A, you can discover Alpha Pokemon simply by exploring Lumiose City – check streets, alleys, and even rooftops! Keep in mind that some Pokemon only come out during the day, while others prefer nighttime. If you need to change the time of day, you can always rest on a bench to quickly cycle between day and night.

Alpha Pokemon in Wild Zones
The best way to find Alpha Pokemon is by exploring Wild Zones. As you play the game, more locations on the map will become highlighted in green, indicating areas with a diverse population of five or more Pokemon species.
You’ll likely encounter at least one Alpha in these areas. Keep in mind they’re usually quite strong, so be prepared for a tough fight.
If you can’t find what you’re looking for, don’t worry! Simply advance the time of day to reset the available items.

That wraps up our guide to finding Alpha Pokemon in Pokemon Legends: Z-A. When you defeat one, use a Great Ball or Ultra Ball for the best chance of catching it. These massive Pokemon are incredibly powerful in battle – it’s like fighting alongside a top-level trainer! Plus, their higher levels make them fantastic additions to your team.
