In a new ABC true crime special called The Turpins: A New House of Horrors, Diane Sawyer spoke with Julissa, Jolinda, and James Turpin. This is the first time the siblings have publicly shared details about the abuse they suffered at the hands of their parents, David and Louise Turpin, and their experiences in foster care. The documentary is now available on Hulu and Disney+ in the U.S., starting February 4th, as part of a series of new true crime content.
In January 2018, David and Louise Turpin were arrested after their 17-year-old daughter, Jordan, escaped their home in Perris, California, and reported to police that she and her 12 siblings had been tortured and abused. When authorities investigated, they found the children were severely malnourished and had been chained to their beds for extended periods.
In February 2019, the couple faced 14 serious felony charges, such as child abuse, torture, and unlawful imprisonment. Both received life sentences and will not be able to apply for parole until 2044.
This isn’t the first time Diane Sawyer has covered the Turpin family’s story. She previously spoke with Jennifer and Jordan Turpin in 2021 for a special report. Now, in a new report, Sawyer interviews three of the younger Turpin siblings – James, Julissa, and Jolinda – about their difficult childhoods and the abuse they and five other siblings experienced with a foster father in October 2019.

Now that many of the Turpin children are adults, most have successfully moved out on their own after leaving foster care. In a Hulu special, Julissa and Jolinda Turpin shared their experiences with abusive foster parents, Marcelino and Rosa Olguin. The Olguins adopted six of the Turpin children, including Julissa, who was eleven years old at the time.
She shared with Sawyer that Marcelino had both called her a sexually suggestive name and then physically harmed her. She explained, “Even though I didn’t fully understand what was happening, I knew it wasn’t okay. It made me deeply uncomfortable and unsafe in my own home.”
In 2024, Marcelino admitted to sexually abusing a child under the age of 14 and was sentenced to seven years in prison. Rosa received four years of probation.

Jennifer Turpin, the eldest of the Turpin siblings at 37 years old, married her partner, Aron, in California in 2024. She shared the happy news on Instagram, saying she felt incredibly lucky to have found “the most amazing guy” who exceeds all her expectations.
Jordan, who is 25 years old, has gained popularity on TikTok as a fashion influencer, attracting 1.7 million followers with her trendy content. She remains close to Jennifer, and the two were seen together at Disneyland in August 2025.
Like Sawyer, James Turpin is 25 years old. He shared that he still wishes he’d had a more typical childhood, but he’s learned to cope. “I always wanted parents, or just someone I could turn to for advice or support,” he said, “but I’ve got the internet, which helps.”
