When You Can Stream ‘Zootopia 2’ on Disney+

The highly anticipated sequel, Zootopia 2, is now playing in theaters and is predicted to be a major hit in 2025. From Walt Disney Animation Studios, this film follows the incredibly successful 2016 movie, Zootopia, which earned $1 billion globally. As people head to cinemas to see Zootopia 2 during the holidays, many are curious about when it will be available to stream on Disney+.

Now that Zootopia 2 is in theaters, Disney hasn’t said when it will be available to stream on Disney+. Disney typically waits before adding new movies to Disney+ to encourage people to see them in cinemas. They learned that releasing films on streaming too soon after their theatrical release can lower box office earnings, as happened with several movies in 2021 and 2022. While there’s no official date yet, based on how long it usually takes for Disney animated films to arrive on Disney+, we can estimate Zootopia 2 will likely be available for streaming around the holidays.

Although there’s no official release date yet, we can estimate that Zootopia 2 will likely arrive on Disney+ sometime in March. Disney has released similar animated films – like Frozen 2 and Moana 2 – on the streaming service in March, roughly four months after they were in theaters. Frozen 2 became available on Disney+ 114 days after its theatrical debut, and Moana 2 followed 105 days later. Even though Wish didn’t perform well in theaters, it had a longer wait time before streaming, becoming available 133 days after its release. More recently, Pixar films like Elemental and Elio appeared on Disney+ 89 days after hitting theaters, while the popular Inside Out 2 was released on the platform 103 days after its theatrical run.

For a while, Walt Disney Animation Studios movies like Encanto and Strange World became available on Disney+ just a month after hitting theaters. But recently, Disney decided to wait longer before streaming its films, wanting to maximize ticket sales. That means Zootopia 2 won’t be on Disney+ this Christmas. Okay, so I’ve been tracking the potential release date for Zootopia 2 on Disney+, and it’s getting interesting. If Disney holds it back as long as they did with Wish, we’re looking at an April 8th, 2026 release. But honestly, with Judy Hopps being a bunny, I think Disney+ is going to want it out before Easter – that’s April 5th, 2026. That probably means we’ll see it in March. Looking at how other movies have been released, if Zootopia 2 follows the Frozen 2 pattern of being on Disney+ 114 days after its theatrical release, it’ll hit the streamer around March 20th, 2026. But if it’s more like Moana 2’s 105-day window, we could be watching it as early as March 11th, 2026. I’m hoping for earlier rather than later!

Considering the typical theatrical run of recent Disney animated films (like Frozen 2, Wish, and Moana 2), Zootopia 2 is likely to be available on Disney+ around March 23, 2026. However, Disney might choose March 4, 2026, to coincide with the 10th anniversary of the original Zootopia, which would be a great marketing opportunity.
