Don’t expect to revisit the world of ‘Heated Rivalry‘ on HBO Max anytime soon. According to creator Jacob Tierney, it will likely be more than a year before filming begins on season 2. While the show was a big success for both HBO Max and Canada’s Crave, and has already been renewed, very little progress has been made on new episodes. Tierney indicated that, unlike last year when he had already written five episodes by this time, he hasn’t started writing any for the next season. He assures fans it’s still coming, but it won’t be released as quickly as some might hope – so don’t count on it becoming a new holiday tradition in 2026.
The unexpected popularity of “Heated Rivalry” took everyone by surprise. According to HBO’s Casey Bloys, they initially anticipated a niche audience, “maybe gay-only,” but the show appealed to a much wider group. This success caught them off guard, leaving them unprepared for a quick return. However, the creators don’t want to repeat the long wait fans experienced with “Euphoria.” They aim to release a new season as soon as possible without sacrificing quality. “We know everyone wants seasons to come out more quickly,” said creator Tierney, “but I don’t want to rush a bad second season just because the show is popular. We’re eager to get back to work and deliver something great, and our creative team feels the same way!”
