Preloading and preorder info

Hey everyone, so the preload for Pokemon Legends: Z-A is finally live if you got it from the Nintendo eShop! Just a heads-up, it looks like it needs 4GB of space on the original Switch and a bit more – 7.7GB – on the Switch OLED. Also, if you preordered, you’re getting some cool digital bonuses. I checked out TopMob’s preorder guide, and it’s super helpful for seeing exactly what you get and figuring out which version of the game is best for you. Definitely worth a look!

What is Pokemon Legends: ZA?

As we’ve previously shared, Pokémon Legends: ZA is a new game following Pokémon Legends: Arceus, and it’s bringing players back to the Kalos region – the location from the Pokémon X and Y games on 3DS. This time, you’ll explore a lively city called Lumiose City, which is a big change from the open fields and nature of the last game. You’ll start your journey with one of three Pokémon partners: Chikorita, Totodile, or Tepig. The easy catching method from Arceus will be back, meaning you won’t need to battle every wild Pokémon before trying to catch it.

Z-A is changing things up significantly with its battle system. Instead of the turn-based battles you’re used to in games like Arceus, it’s moving to a more strategic, real-time system. You and your Pokémon will be able to move around during battles, though within a limited space. How you position yourselves and time your actions – including dodging – will be key to winning.

A popular feature from past games is coming back! Mega Evolutions, which haven’t been seen since Pokemon: Let’s Go, Pikachu and Eevee in 2018, temporarily transform your Pokemon into a much stronger form. Not only does Mega Evolution boost your Pokemon’s power, it also changes its appearance. However, only certain Pokemon can Mega Evolve, and you’ll need both a Mega Ring and a specific Mega Stone for each Pokemon to trigger the transformation.

The game will get its first expansion, Mega Dimension, in February 2026.
