When Calls the Heart Season 12 Episode 2 recap: Lucas’ love interest is finally revealed

In contrast to Episode 1, which delved into the consequences of Jack’s hidden truth, Episode 2 of When Calls the Heart’s Season 12 takes a different route, exploring Lucas’ relationship with a potential partner… or could it be a foe instead?

In the charming town of Hope Valley, it seems as if everyone is caught up in the thrill of love. Mike and Mei have recently tied the knot, Elizabeth and Nathan are smitten beyond belief, while Rosemary is reveling in a fresh chapter of her journalistic journey. However, for Lucas, things haven’t been quite as simple.

Following Elizabeth’s breakup at the conclusion of Season 10, he started dating a new woman named Jeanette during Season 11. However, it turned out that Jeanette had attempted to kill him and was secretly employed under an assumed name as a local crime boss.

Jeanette is no longer around, leaving Lucas with very little. In the latest episode of When Calls the Heart (Season 12), a captivating new romantic storyline unfolds, following the enemies-to-lovers trope. However, who is the enigmatic woman making her appearance in Episode 2? Proceed with caution as there are spoilers ahead!

Lucas and Edie go head to head in When Calls the Heart Season 12 Episode 2

In Episode 2 of When Calls the Heart Season 12, the scene starts with Edwin sharing his concern about Lucas’ declining popularity polls. To secure victory, it’s crucial to appeal to the urban, corporate, and rural sectors – often referred to as “the big three.” Edwin proposes that Lucas should consider trading naming rights for a park, but he has previously promised Lee that the park will be named after Goldie instead.

Edie Martel from the Cattleman’s Association shows up, informing Lucas about an issue with his construction plans. It turns out that her late uncle previously owned a ranch near where Lucas intends to build, and his plan seems to eliminate “shared use” of the land. This means that farmers could legally extend their farming areas for livestock reasons in those spots, which explains Edie’s frustration since this development is not favorable to her.

Edie emphasizes to Lucas and Edwin that this situation we’re dealing with is more about community and less about power struggles. Should the ranchers fail, it could lead to a significant number of people losing their jobs, causing a spike in food prices, which would put Hope Valley in a difficult position.

In the course of the episode, Lucas decides to postpone the park project. This surprises Lee, and Lucas defends himself by stating that Edie raised some valid points. Lee suspects this is a strategy concocted by Lucas and Edwin to drive him away, and he expresses his unwillingness to be separated from his family for such a venture. Unless Lucas adheres to his initial promise, Lee will step down.

Rosemary’s radio show is off and running

As Elizabeth eagerly creates a new banner to support the show, it doesn’t take long before Rosemary starts contemplating scrapping the idea. Unlike gathering stories for the newspaper, which often reach her desk from around town, Rosemary is finding it tough to find suitable stories for radio broadcast. A rival newspaper labels the plan as “ridiculous,” and this notion swiftly resonates with Rosemary.

When Toby shares Henry’s idea for a comic book with her (I’ll go into detail about that later), she feels she’s found a compelling tale. Later in the day, everyone in town assembles at the saloon, eager to listen to the first broadcast. Rosemary chats with Faith, Joseph, and Minnie about their thoughts on the comics, all expressing ordinary opinions about the seemingly innocent influence they have on the children.

After a while, Rosemary realizes she needs to take a bolder approach. So, she tasks Elizabeth with seeking out Florence. Upon being found, Florence promptly voices her disapproval of the outrageous trend that threatens the well-being of Hope Valley’s kids. Interestingly, in this exchange, it turns out that Florence has been secretly indulging in those very comic books herself.

A comic book craze sweeps Hope Valley

the boys could work for free around the store instead.

For the sake of keeping their attention in class, Elizabeth organizes an excursion to a local park. Instead of having them engrossed in comic books, she encourages them to trade those pages for the natural wonders surrounding them.

Due to Henry’s abundant collection of hazelnuts, he discovered an opportunity to assist children in earning money from comic books. With such a large quantity, it was difficult for him to handle alone, so involving others in selling the stock benefited everyone. After distributing some for free as per Joseph’s suggestion, Henry decided to establish a genuine hazelnut business.

After their honeymoon, Mike and Mei are back, keeping quiet about their less-than-ideal experience. To add insult to injury, they discover a water leak upon their return. The couple starts blaming each other and argues throughout the episode. Eventually, in an attempt to resolve the issue while repairs are made, Mike proposes that Mei move in with him temporarily.

It appears that Nathan’s latest hire, Oliver, is adjusting smoothly, which has led Nathan to assign him additional tasks. A joint dinner hosted by Nathan and Elizabeth brings everyone together, but there’s an instant undercurrent of friction between Oliver and Allie.
