What’s the Latest on DC’s SnyderVerse Getting Restored?

Recent developments involving Netflix and Warner Bros. Discovery suggest a return of the “Snyderverse” is looking less likely. While fans are still hoping for a continuation of Zack Snyder’s DC films, the biggest challenge now seems to be the unclear future ownership of the studio.

Could DC’s SnyderVerse really get restored?

Following the release of Zack Snyder’s Justice League on HBO Max in 2021, many fans are hoping for more films in the style of Snyder’s vision – often called the “Snyderverse.” There’s been talk online about Netflix being a potential home for any future Snyderverse sequels, especially since Zack Snyder already has several projects planned with the platform. However, Netflix would need to acquire the rights to DC’s characters, which would require buying Warner Bros. Discovery – a complex undertaking that isn’t straightforward.

Besides Netflix, companies like Paramount and Comcast are also interested in buying Warner Bros. Discovery. This means Netflix would face tough competition from major players in a bidding war if it wants to bring back the Snyderverse, as each company has its own ideas for Warner’s future. They’ll likely have very different plans for how to use DC’s characters and stories, too.

It’s understandable why Netflix would want to revisit Zack Snyder’s DC movies, especially now that James Gunn’s new Superman film has been successful. However, companies like Paramount or Comcast likely won’t be interested in reviving the older DC universe. Also, Paramount Skydance has firmly denied a recent Variety report claiming they were planning a $71 billion bid for Warner Bros. Discovery, backed by investment funds from Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Abu Dhabi. They’ve called the report completely false.

Despite ongoing fan campaigns for the Snyderverse to return, it’s unlikely to happen. This is because of complicated ownership rights, changes in what the studio wants to focus on, and the intense rivalry between big entertainment companies.
