What's on The Other Side of The Witcher Coin? Sebastian Kalemba's Riddle Keeps CD Projekt RED Fans Hooked

As a devoted fan of The Witcher series, I find myself utterly captivated by the latest developments surrounding The Witcher 4. Having grown up with the original games and reading the books, I can safely say that my childhood memories are filled with Geralt’s adventures.

Yesterday, CD Projekt RED disclosed their third-quarter financial results for 2024. It appears that the Polish company is thriving, largely because of robust sales of Cyberpunk 2077 and the Phantom Liberty DLC. Additionally, it was revealed that Project Polaris, often referred to as The Witcher 4, has advanced into a highly intensive development stage. To add to the excitement, an enigmatic image was shared alongside the announcement, sparking curiosity among many gamers.

Mysterious coin

Fascinated fans have begun to examine the image posted by Sebastian Kalemba, a director at CD Projekt RED, which depicted several coins and hinted at their “reverse sides.” These fans are eagerly searching for additional details in hopes of uncovering potential insights about The Witcher 4.

The prominent coin seems to show a partially hidden sun, radiating light onto a cliff’s incline, suggesting perhaps an eclipse. Thus, many gamers speculate that the coin symbolizes the “Curse of the Dark Sun.” As per Wikipedia, this prophecy was most prevalent in the northern regions, including Kovir. Consequently, some enthusiasts assume that this is where the events of the fourth Witcher game might unfold.

As a gaming enthusiast, I’ve heard whispers that the image could be representing a Defier’s oren, a coin known for its connection with Falka, a character from The Wild Hunt. She’s the one who sparked a rebellion against her father to claim the throne of Redania. Some theories suggest that The Witcher 4 might transport us back to those tumultuous times.

Instead, the editor of Rock Paper Shotgun posits that the reverse side of the coin could potentially showcase The Witcher, possibly accompanied by the game’s title. He also speculates that CD Projekt RED may opt to exclude the number 4 from the title to appeal to a broader consumer base. He suggests this is due to the significant elapse of time since the launch of The Witcher 3; potential buyers who are not familiar with this game might be dissuaded by a title that includes a “4”.

Keep in mind, though, that these ideas are simply theories, and they might not accurately represent reality. Similarly, there may be no hidden significance to the image that Kalemba presented.
