Everyone loved ‘The Pitt’ when it premiered in 2025, and now you can learn when and where to watch the first episode of its second season in 2026.
Featuring Noah Wyle as a doctor working under intense pressure during a challenging 15-hour shift in a Pittsburgh emergency room, ‘The Pitt’ was widely praised when it first aired last year.
The show has received numerous accolades, including five Emmy Awards and the Best Drama award at the Critic’s Choice Awards, which it won just last week.
Everyone is eagerly awaiting the second season of The Pitt, which begins airing in the US this week and promises to reveal answers to some long-standing mysteries.
The Pitt Season 2 Episode 1 release date and time

The Pitt Season 2 Episode 1 debuts on HBO Max on Thursday, January 8, 2026, at 6pm PT/9pm ET.
I was so bummed to hear Season 1 of The Pitt wasn’t released over here in the UK! But it sounds like we’re finally going to get it – along with Season 2 – when HBO Max launches, which is expected sometime in March 2026. I can’t wait!
How many episodes are in Season 2 of The Pitt?

Similar to the first season, Season 2 of The Pitt has 15 episodes, each covering another hour within the same 24-hour period at the Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center.
The first nine episodes were released to TopMob, and in our review of Season 2, we said that The Pitt is now even more stressful to watch than The Bear – and that’s a good thing! While some shows let you relax, this one is truly excellent television that keeps you completely engaged with its compelling storylines and deserves your full attention.

What happens in the new season?

In our review, we noted that in Season 2, Dr. Michael “Robby” Robinavitch (played by Noah Wyle, who also executive produces) is nearing a three-month break. This looming sabbatical influences all his choices, as he’s not just thinking about leaving, but also about how to successfully pass on his responsibilities.
Dr. Baran Al-Hashimi, played by Sepideh Moafi, steps in to cover for Robby while he’s away. She’s not an antagonist, and the season avoids a typical power struggle between leaders. However, her arrival noticeably shifts the atmosphere. She brings new ideas and makes subtle changes to existing policies, even challenging long-held practices, like exploring the use of AI to help with administrative tasks and improve workflows.
A particularly compelling storyline this season centers on Dr. Frank Langdon’s (Patrick Ball) recovery and return to work. Throwing him back into the high-stress environment – and near Robby – creates a persistent tension throughout the season, raising questions about what true healing looks like when someone’s job is relentlessly demanding.
