What happened in Episode 8?

Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3, Episode 8, titled ‘Tokyo No. 1 Colony – Part 2,’ explored how lawyer Higuruma lost his faith in the past, and then showed Yuji and Megumi trying to find him in the present.

The story begins with a look back to 2016, introducing Hiromi Higuruma as a lawyer. He’s growing disillusioned with the legal system, finding it’s often rigged against defendants and almost always results in convictions.

Despite knowing his client likely committed the crime, he takes the case, believing in the man’s claim of innocence. With Higuruma’s assistance, they manage to win, but the prosecution appeals the verdict, and the client is ultimately sentenced to life in prison. This devastating outcome pushes Higuruma to his breaking point, triggering his powerful cursed technique and unleashing a massive shikigami as he fights for a retrial.

Currently, Yuji and Megumi are tracking leads from other sorcerers who might know Higuruma’s location. As they head to Higuruma’s hideout – a theater – Amai shares a story about how he and Yuji first met: Yuji stood up to a group of bullies back in high school.

Yuji finds Higuruma sitting fully dressed in a bathtub on stage. He asks Higuruma to use his points to alter the rules of the Culling Game, but the lawyer declines. Realizing he has no other choice, Yuji attempts to force the issue, which prompts Higuruma to activate his Domain Expansion. This traps Yuji within Higuruma’s Deadly Sentencing domain, and the trial begins.

Megumi tracks Remi to an apartment and encounters Reggie Star. Reggie believes the Culling Game is designed to eliminate weaker sorcerers, leaving only the strongest—who will then be targeted by Kenjaku with a devastating attack.

The last scene shows Kenjaku walking toward a table where nine shadowy figures are seated, and they gesture for him to sit with them.
