What happened in A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Episode 2?

In Episode 2, Dunk is officially entered into the tournament. He gets ready to fight by gathering his gear and witnesses the intense action of a joust for the first time.

The trial begins with Dunk praising his former teacher, Ser Arlan of Pennytree, highlighting his good qualities. However, the visuals shown don’t quite match up with the positive picture Dunk is painting.

Targaryen princes Baelor, Maekar, and Aerion showed up for the tournament, and Baelor allowed Dunk to join as well. However, he told Dunk he needed to design his own unique banner, and awkwardly requested Tanelle to paint it for him.

Dunk sells his favorite horse to afford armor and then gets pulled into a tug-of-war competition organized by Lord Lyonel Tyrrel. He and his companion manage to win the contest.

As the games start, the first joust is shockingly fast and violent, shaking Dunk’s confidence. He worries that if Arlan hadn’t accomplished anything with his life, he himself might meet a similar, grim end.

Dunk also admits his mentor instilled strong values in him, and he’s eager to see the consequences of those teachings play out soon.
