You’ve probably seen videos on TikTok mentioning ‘Group 7’ and whether people are included or not. But what exactly is this group, and why is it getting so much attention?
It all began when Sophia James, a singer-songwriter who once competed on American Idol, tried to find a way to make her new song popular online.
It’s tough for creators to get noticed online. To promote her new song, ‘So Unfair,’ she decided to try something different and created seven unique videos all featuring the track.
She sorted her audience into groups depending on which video they initially saw. Video number seven was the final group sent out, and it turned out to be the most popular video overall.
In a video, she explained she was running a small experiment to see which of seven different videos would be seen by the most people. She jokingly told her viewers, ‘I’m not sure what it means, but you’re in Group 7 – welcome!’
Singer’s Group 7 TikTok video sparks hilarious viral ‘club’
James’ video has quickly become incredibly popular, gaining over 53 million views in just six days. A lot of people are playfully bragging about being part of ‘Group 7,’ treating it like a special honor.
“Group 7 the baddest, we don’t make the rules,” Rihanna’s Fenty Beauty commented.
“Can you imagine not being in Group 7,” another wrote.
“I knew deep in my soul that one day I would be a Group 7 girlie,” another joked.
People shared funny TikTok videos jokingly telling anyone outside the group to just “keep scrolling,” playfully imitating the classic “Mean Girls” movie for comedic effect.
Dancer Ezra Sosa playfully asked people at an event if they were part of ‘Group 7,’ but many jokingly responded with the popular ‘6,7’ meme, which frustrated him.
It’s simple: you’re either part of the latest trend or you’re not. But don’t worry, something new is always becoming popular on the app.
A new TikTok trend is gaining popularity after the “stiletto challenge”—inspired by Nicki Minaj—went viral. Unfortunately, the challenge has led to several injuries, including a broken back for one woman who was trying to balance in heels on a kitchen counter.
