If you’ve already watched the final episode of Stranger Things Season 5, or are still planning to, you might be curious about what happens to Vickie, Robin’s girlfriend. A subtle clue could reveal her fate.
The popular sci-fi series Stranger Things has ended after ten seasons, concluding the adventures of Mike, Eleven, Dustin, Lucas, and their friends in Hawkins.
Season 5, Volume 2 revealed that the Upside Down isn’t a separate dimension, but a gateway to the Abyss – the original home of the monsters and where Vecna (Jamie Campbell Bower) intends to connect it with our world.
The last episodes are now available on Netflix, and they feature the group uniting for one last battle. They’ll need all the help they can get – even Vickie’s – to defeat Vecna. Be careful, as this contains spoilers!
What happened to Vickie in Stranger Things Season 5?

Okay, so after we finally took down Vecna and saved everyone in the last episode of Stranger Things, I noticed Vickie was just… gone. Seriously, no sign of her anywhere, which had me wondering what happened! But then I caught a small detail that makes me think she and Robin are still together, which is a relief, honestly. It’s subtle, but it’s there!
The series finale ends with a time jump of a year and a half, showing Mike and his friends graduating from Hawkins High. We also see Steve has become a baseball coach, and the older characters return home for a visit during their college break.
While at Smith College in Massachusetts, Robin teams up with Steve, Nancy, and Jonathan on the roof of a radio station. Together, they make a plan to get together every month to stay friends.

Raising their glasses to their new scheme, Steve toasted, “To never letting anything come between us!” Robin quickly added, “Not even pushy partners.”
Some fans think she’s talking about Vickie, who often came across as pushy, though she meant well and truly cared for Robin.
Someone on Reddit responded to a question about Vickie by saying she’s still in a relationship with Robin, pointing to a comment about Vickie having an ‘overbearing girlfriend’ as evidence.
Someone else explained that the same thing likely happened to these children as happened to others held at the military base: they were held, questioned, and then let go. Pursuing legal action would be too risky, as it could expose the base’s secret activities.
Vickie was likely let go sooner than the rest, as she didn’t participate in any wrongdoing – she was simply present at the SQWK station.
Did Vickie die?

We can confirm she survived the battle. After the group defeats Vecna and escapes the Upside Down, Dr. Kay (played by Linda Hamilton) and the military are there to meet them.
Vickie and Max (played by Sadie Sink) have already been stopped, and we see them watching with worry. However, Dr. Kay is determined to get El, but fails. El appears to sacrifice herself by staying in front of the gateway when the bomb explodes – we’ll explain more about that in a moment.
After this event, the show skips ahead in time, so we don’t see the immediate aftermath. However, it’s implied that with the government losing the ability to control people with superpowers, they’re forced to release them, including Vickie.

If Robin and Vickie are still a couple, she might now be working as a nurse at a hospital near where Robin goes to school. Otherwise, they probably just see each other when they’re both home for the holidays.
Ultimately, everyone in Hawkins – and especially this duo – owes their freedom to El’s selfless sacrifice.
Eleven’s fate explained
Okay, so Eleven’s ending in the Stranger Things Season 5 finale? It’s really open to interpretation, and honestly, that’s exactly what the creators wanted! They’re leaving it up to us fans to decide if she actually… didn’t make it. It’s a tough one, and I’m still debating it myself!

The show initially makes it seem like she bravely sacrificed herself by staying at the gateway when the bomb exploded, leading Dr. Kay and the military to believe she was killed.
During their last Dungeons & Dragons session, Mike revealed that El didn’t actually die. It was an illusion created by Kali right before she passed away. This illusion was meant to safeguard her sister and ensure the government stopped pursuing children with special abilities.
He believes El left Hawkins before the explosion, intentionally vanishing instead of coming back. To defeat Vecna and break the pattern of experimentation, El must remain hidden, unable to live a normal life in the world she once knew.

The show doesn’t reveal if what we’re seeing is Mike’s imagination, or actually happened. The creators, the Duffer brothers, have stated they want the audience to interpret it for themselves.
Ross Duffer mentioned to the streaming service that, for the characters in Hawkins, she continues to live on in their memories and feelings, regardless of whether that’s actually true.
