In Crimson Desert, you can improve your character’s skills with Abyss Artifacts as you explore the world of Pywel. Since these artifacts are rare, it can be tough to decide how to best use your skill points. To help, we’ve put together a guide to the best skills to upgrade in Crimson Desert. Let’s get started!
What Skills & Abilities You Should Upgrade in Crimson Desert
Base Stats – Stamina & Health
We strongly suggest investing some points into both Health and Stamina in Crimson Desert, particularly when you’re first starting out.
Stamina powers many of your actions, including climbing, running, gliding, and powerful attacks. It also impacts your horse’s stamina. Certain parts of the game’s story even require you to have a specific level of stamina. Plus, having enough stamina makes climbing much easier and less annoying.
Boosting your health is also incredibly important. Some attacks are unavoidable, especially when facing groups of enemies, and certain boss battles are very challenging. Having more health can be what keeps you alive. Don’t forget to improve your defenses with better armor, too.
You might be wondering why not just improve Spirit right away. We actually do suggest upgrading it, but it’s not a top priority when you’re first starting out and fighting easier bosses. You can definitely defeat enemies like The Reed Devil with your initial Spirit level. It’s better to focus on upgrading it later, when the bosses get much harder.
Of course, you still need to spend Artifacts on other skills and not just your base stats.
Best Stamina (Blue) Skills to Upgrade/Unlock in Crimson Desert
Overall, our favorite Stamina (Blue) Skills in Crimson Desert include:
Blinding Flash Finisher – Requires:
- Blinding Flash Lv. 1
- Abyss Artifact (1x)
- Cost: 5 Spirit
Blinding Flash is arguably the most powerful ability in the game. It’s already incredibly helpful – it can blind enemies, reveal hidden areas and resources, and even cook food! But unlocking the Finisher upgrade takes it to another level.
This attack allows you to quickly overwhelm your opponent with a series of powerful strikes. It requires 5 spirit to perform, so building up your spirit reserves can be very helpful. I especially like using this attack against bosses – it makes Kliff feel incredibly strong, and the damage is well worth the spirit cost.
Forward Slash Lv. 3
Improving this strong slash attack increases its damage and unlocks new abilities. Once you master it, you can chain each slash with a powerful finishing move. The ‘Sure Hit’ upgrade guarantees your Forward Slash will always connect.
Using your forward slash costs stamina, so make sure to increase your base stamina stat!
Armed Combat
Armed Combat isn’t as powerful as Forward Slash, but it doesn’t drain your stamina, and the benefits it offers are useful. Plus, if you rely on your shield, you’ll find a couple of skills here that make it even better.
Honestly, what I love about leveling up Armed Combat is how much harder I hit! It makes taking down enemies so much quicker, especially when I have decent gear. It just speeds things up a ton!
Best Spirit (Green) Skills to Upgrade/Unlock in Crimson Desert
Double Jump – Requires:
- Abyss Artifact (1x)
- Cost: 5 Spirit
This new ability significantly simplifies getting around the map. Although you still need stamina to climb, the double jump allows you to reach higher areas with greater ease. It does use spirit energy, but the cost is fairly low.
Force Current – Requires:
- Force Palm Lv. 2
- Axiom Force Lv. 2
- Abyss Artifact (1x)
This skill is incredibly helpful for solving puzzles and interacting with the world – you can use it to chop down trees, mine ores, and break through obstacles. While I don’t usually rely on it in fights, I’m glad I invested the resources to unlock it.
Keen Senses Lv. 3
As a gamer, let me tell you, maxing out Keen Senses is a game-changer! It seriously helps with fighting. Once it’s fully leveled, I can reliably dodge attacks, parry incoming blows, and even counter when the timing is right. It’s become essential for me, especially during those tough boss battles or when I’m surrounded by bandits and really need to get out of a sticky situation.
Evasive Roll – Requires:
- Observe OR
- Abyss Artifact (1x)
Besides Keen Senses, we also suggest learning Evasive Roll. It lets you quickly dodge attacks, adding extra safety during fights, and the good news is you can get it without spending any resources.
You’ll encounter Kailok the Hornsplitter at the end of Chapter 2, and he uses a special ability during the fight. It’s best to wait and unlock this ability naturally—that way, you can spend your skill points on other upgrades instead.
Focus Lv. 3
Finally, the Focus skill allows you to build up your Spirit energy. Fully upgrading it enables you to deflect enemy attacks while you’re charging. If you’re skilled at deflecting, you can quickly recover Spirit energy this way.
Recommended Health (Red) Abilities in Crimson Desert
Axiom Force Lv 2. – Requires:
- Abyss Artifact (1x)
This feature lets players latch onto surfaces and pull themselves up, making it much easier to climb mountains and reach high places – similar to how a Double Jump works.
In Crimson Desert, these are the most important upgrades to prioritize. If you want to change how you’ve spent your skill points, you can use a Faded Abyss Artifact to reset your skill tree.
