What $55 Billion Buys: Everything Included In The EA Acquisition

Electronic Arts (EA) is set to become a private company. The well-known video game developer will be acquired for a substantial $55 billion by a group of investors. This group includes Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, Jared Kushner’s Affinity Partners, and the private equity firm Silver Lake. The deal still needs to be approved by regulators and EA’s shareholders, but the company anticipates it will be finalized in the first quarter of their fiscal year 2027. This is a major shift for the gaming industry. Keep an eye on developments as the process unfolds.

As a longtime fan, it’s wild to think about what EA will be like after this buyout! A privately held EA could be so different from the company we know now, and they’re also starting with about $20 billion in new debt from the deal. It really makes you wonder, what does $55 billion actually get you these days? Apparently, quite a lot! EA’s new owners are picking up all the studios, iconic brands, and everything else that makes EA, well, EA. Here’s a rundown of everything EA has to offer.

EA’s various entertainment studios

EA owns a number of game development studios, and many of them have created some of EA’s most popular games. Criterion Games has developed multiple Need for Speed titles, DICE is famous for the Battlefield series, and Maxis became well-known with The Sims.

Additionally, we have Motive Studio-a development team that sometimes provides support and other times leads major projects, such as Star Wars: Squadrons and the remake of Dead Space. PopCap Games is known for creating many successful mobile games, and Respawn Entertainment has delivered some of EA’s most highly-regarded single-player experiences recently.

As a long-time fan of BioWare, it’s really worrying to see what’s happening at the studio. They’ve made some of my favorite games ever, but after the recent layoffs – especially impacting the teams working on Mass Effect and Dragon Age – I’m honestly not sure what the future holds. I know they’ve been working on a new Mass Effect game for years, but Anthem didn’t do well, and Dragon Age: The Veilguard hasn’t sold as much as hoped. It makes you wonder what things look like for them now that EA owns them outright.

The studios mentioned earlier represent only a small part of Electronic Arts’ overall presence, as the company also owns Full Circle, the developers of Skate, EA Gothenburg, Codemasters, and numerous other affiliated studios.

EA All Play

This division of EA, which primarily concentrates on mobile games, also creates digital games and digital board games. It’s a key part of their overall gaming strategy.

EA Competitive Gaming Division

As a big esports fan, I’ve been following the EA CGD since they started in 2015. They’re all about helping esports grow, especially when it comes to games I love like EA Sports FC and Battlefield. It’s awesome to see them pushing these competitions forward!

SEED

As a big fan of EA, I’ve been following their Search for Extraordinary Experiences Division – it’s basically where they come up with all the cool new stuff! It’s their research and development hub for cutting-edge technologies, and they have teams working in both Los Angeles and Stockholm. It’s really exciting to see what they’re up to!

EA Platforms and services

Besides the EA App for PC, EA Play is a subscription service you can get on its own, or it’s included with Game Pass Ultimate.
