Bradley Whitford and Allison Janney are back together in the White House again.
In “The Diplomat” Season 3, there’s a gathering reminiscent of “The West Wing”, as Richard Schiff has joined the cast, portraying Todd Penn – the husband of Vice President Grace Penn, played by Allison Janney. Netflix has revealed three preliminary snapshots from the upcoming season of this political thriller, which is actively being produced and anticipated to premiere in 2025.
Whitford and Janney are taking on significant roles in Washington again, as they previously shone as lead characters in Aaron Sorkin’s NBC political series throughout its seven-season span. In this show, Janney portrayed Press Secretary C.J. Cregg, while Whitford embodied White House Deputy Chief of Staff Josh Lyman.

The Diplomat” introduces Keri Russell as Kate Wyler, the American Ambassador to the U.K., navigating through global conflicts while struggling with her strained marriage to fellow diplomat Hal Wyler (portrayed by Rufus Sewell). The ensemble includes David Gyasi, Ali Ahn, Rory Kinnear, and Ato Essandoh in supporting roles.
In a nutshell, Whitford has garnered three Emmy Awards – one for his work on “The West Wing,” and the rest for “Transparent” on Amazon and “The Handmaid’s Tale” on Hulu. His other television projects include “Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip,” “Valley of the Boom,” and “The Madness.” In the film industry, he is renowned for his roles in films such as “Get Out,” “Tick, Tick… Boom!,” and “Saving Mr. Banks.
The Diplomat” got renewed for a third season even before its second season debut. Deborah Cahn is the creator, showrunner, and executive producer of this series. Russell not only stars but also serves as an executive producer. Both Janice Williams and Alex Graves are also executive producers.
