‘We Will Rebuild L.A.’: Rams Players Celebrate First Responders at Relocated NFL Wild Card Game Against Minnesota Vikings

Due to the fierce wildfire sweeping through Los Angeles County, the Los Angeles Rams were compelled to move their Wild Card playoff match against the Minnesota Vikings from their home stadium to the arena in Glendale, Arizona where the Arizona Cardinals typically play. However, the strong emotions stirred by the tragedy back home were evident before the game’s start, as ESPN’s “Monday Night Football” broadcast the event live.

During the pre-game warm-ups, players like Cooper Kupp, Puka Nacua, Matthew Stafford, and coach Sean McVay donned unique T-shirts bearing the LAFD (Los Angeles Fire Department) logo along with the Rams’ emblem. Before the game commenced, the Rams’ legendary figure, Andrew Whitworth – the retired offensive lineman who played a crucial role in the team’s Super Bowl win in 2021 – rallied the crowd at State Farm Stadium with an inspiring message for the disaster-stricken city.

Whitworth declared, ‘We’re resilient. This destruction won’t define us. Side by side, we will rebuild Los Angeles, taking as long as necessary and exerting all our efforts. Together, we will construct it.’ Whitworth added, ‘Los Angeles, you are cherished. We adore you and stand with you.'”

“Whitworth spoke up saying, ‘We’re tough. This devastation won’t dictate who we are. Working together, we will rebuild Los Angeles, for as long as it takes and whatever it requires.’ Whitworth expressed, ‘Los Angeles, you are dear to us. We hold you close and stand by your side.’

A solemn silence fell over the stadium as a tribute to the hundreds of thousands of Los Angeles County residents forced from their homes due to the fires that started on January 7th. ESPN’s cameras swept across the stadium, capturing the raw emotion etched on the faces of Rams supporters who journeyed east to support their team in their pursuit of NFL playoff success.

Rachel Platten, famous for her empowering song “Fight Song,” sang the National Anthem. As a long-term Los Angeles resident, she became emotional at the end and gazed into ESPN’s cameras, her eyes filled with tears.

According to Whitworth, entire communities have suffered greatly, and there is yet more work ahead for all of us. The valor and courage displayed by our firefighters and emergency responders serve as a reminder that everyday heroes reside within our midst.

During a commercial interlude, ESPN broadcast brief digital clips featuring popular Los Angeles personalities such as Anne Hathaway and Bryan Cranston, among others, expressing appreciation for the efforts of firefighters and emergency responders. Snoop Dogg and Jimmy Kimmel teamed up in one video. Kimmel stated, “Hang tough, L.A.,” while Snoop expressed gratitude to those assisting during this devastating crisis, saying, “We’re all in this together.
