We Now Have Proof Avengers: Doomsday Will Bring The X-Men’s Deadliest Villains Yet to Life

The latest trailer for Avengers: Doomsday heavily features the X-Men, with actors from the previous Fox films returning to play their famous characters. We also saw a quick preview of some of the X-Men’s biggest enemies, who will be appearing in the Marvel Cinematic Universe for the very first time.

Although the movie is still almost a year away, we already know Avengers: Doomsday will bring together heroes from different universes, including an alternate version of the X-Men. But a recent teaser hints that this X-Men team has a troubled past, briefly showcasing some of their powerful enemies.

The New Avengers: Doomsday Teaser Is All About The X-Men (And Death)

The newest trailer for Avengers: Doomsday begins with a scene of the destroyed Xavier Mansion. Patrick Stewart, as Charles Xavier, and Ian McKellen, as Magneto, are shown sitting amongst the wreckage, sharing some deeply unsettling dialogue.

We all eventually die—that’s the one certainty in life. The real question isn’t whether you’re ready for death, but what kind of person you’ve become by the time it arrives.

The preview then shows Scott Summers, played by James Marsden, finally sporting the classic blue and yellow costume from the comics. He falls to his knees before unleashing a huge energy blast – a powerful but clearly strained moment. But the biggest surprise comes right behind Cyclops: we see the Sentinels.

Sentinels Can Be Seen Behind Cyclops In The New Avengers Teaser

Behind Cyclops, amidst the wreckage of what appears to be the Xavier School, are massive robotic legs. These are probably Sentinels – the well-known mutant-hunting robots originally designed by Bolivar Trask, as featured in the comics.

Although Sentinels appeared in the movie Days of Future Past (2014), the new ones in the Marvel Cinematic Universe seem significantly larger and more closely resemble the towering robots from the comics.

With the threat of the Sentinels looming, combined with the tense conversation between Xavier and Magneto, the destroyed school, and Cyclops’ obvious distress, the future looks bleak for the X-Men.

The attack on the school by Sentinels might explain why there aren’t many mutants left in the upcoming Doomsday storyline – the ones we see could be the last. Either way, it will be interesting to discover more about this new take on the X-Men’s past and how they face these iconic enemies.

Avengers: Doomsday is set to release on December 18th from Marvel Studios.
