Forza Motorsport is not dying, but for now, it is being set aside in favor of upcoming games.
Turn 10 Studios, a Microsoft-owned game developer, was affected by recent layoffs at the company. This led to speculation that one of the two main types of Forza racing games might be cancelled. While the developers said work on Forza Motorsport would continue, their announcement didn’t fully satisfy fans of the series.
Upcoming releases are a priority for Microsoft
Recent comments from Xbox head Phil Spencer (reported by Video Game Chronicles via Famitsu) probably won’t cheer up players. While he confirmed that neither Forza Motorsport nor Halo are being discontinued, he indicated that neither series will be returning soon. Microsoft is currently prioritizing new games and wants to give its developers more time to work without constant pressure.
Halo Studios is looking ahead and planning new projects. We’re concentrating on using Unreal Engine 5 and investing in cutting-edge technology. This will allow us the time and resources needed to deliver a truly exceptional new Halo game worthy of the franchise’s legacy.
With Forza Motorsport, we occasionally have to prioritize games with more immediate release dates. We recognize that many people were concerned when we reduced the size of the Turn 10 Studios team.
We want to ensure our games receive the attention they deserve, so we occasionally give developers extra time to avoid overwork. Having several different studios lets us be flexible and support them in doing so.
It’s hard to imagine this news will reassure Forza Motorsport fans, especially after learning the team that worked on the game will now primarily support the Forza Horizon team. Right now, players are left to trust Phil Spencer’s assurances and hope this isn’t the end for FM.
