The upcoming reboot of The Mummy, scheduled for release in Spring 2026, has a new title and a significant change: it won’t be made by the studio that brought us most of the previous Mummy films. While The Mummy is a well-known adventure franchise, famously starring Brendan Fraser and later Tom Cruise, this new version marks the first time Warner Bros. will produce and distribute the film. For nearly a century, Universal Pictures has been behind the ten Mummy movies audiences have enjoyed since the 1930s.
The upcoming reboot of The Mummy, from New Line Cinema and Warner Bros., is reportedly titled The Resurrected. Film insider Daniel Richtman shared the potential title and a brief summary of the plot.
When a man’s daughter reappears after being missing for eight years, he soon realizes she’s possessed by the spirit of an ancient Egyptian mummy. As this evil begins to affect his other child, he’s forced to undertake a dangerous and terrifying ritual to protect them, even if it means sacrificing his own humanity.
The movie’s title could confuse fans because it doesn’t show it’s connected to the existing The Mummy series. If the title remains unchanged, it might limit the film’s reach and make fewer people interested in seeing it.
A new Mummy movie is scheduled to come out on April 17, 2026, from New Line, Atomic Monster, and Blumhouse. The film will feature Jack Reynor, Laia Costa, Verónica Falcón, and May Calamawy. Lee Cronin will direct and write the movie, with James Wan, known for directing Aquaman, producing.
How The Mummy Reboot Compares to Past Movies

This isn’t a continuation of the early 2000s The Mummy films starring Brendan Fraser. It’s a completely new story reimagining the classic Mummy character, distinct from the previous movies with Fraser and Tom Cruise.
With James Wan involved, and Jason Blum’s Blumhouse Productions producing, the next installment is likely to be scarier than previous films. This was hinted at in the first official Instagram post, which promised, “Something terrifying will be unleashed in 2026.”
Cronin recently hinted at his plans for a new ‘Mummy’ film in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, promising it will be vastly different from previous installments. He described the story as following a group of characters who unearth a terrifying and incredibly old evil while excavating deep underground.
Filming wrapped up in June 2025, according to an Instagram post by Cronin, and now fans are eager for the first trailer. With the movie set to release in just under six months, a trailer could arrive soon. Because Warner Bros. doesn’t have another film scheduled for theaters until February 2026, the trailer might be released separately online, potentially before the end of this year, rather than being shown with another movie.
After the trailer comes out, the studio will likely share more information about the new film, including details about the director, James Wan, writer, David Cronin, and the actors involved.
