Watson Season 2: Clarke Peters Joins Cast as John Watson’s Father

Recent photos from season 2 of Watson show the father of the show’s main character. Created by Craig Sweeny, who also worked on Elementary, and starring Morris Chestnut as John Watson, the CBS drama focuses on Watson after the death of Sherlock Holmes. Watson season 2 began airing in October and features several new actors making guest appearances.

Robert Carlyle, an Emmy nominee, plays the incredibly smart detective Sherlock. Even though it seemed like Sherlock died fighting his greatest enemy, Moriarty (played by Randall Park), Carlyle will be back in multiple episodes of season 2. We’ll also soon meet the person who greatly influenced John Watson – his father – for the first time.

TVLine has shared the first photos of Clarke Peters as Hamish Watson, the father of John Watson. Peters will first appear in season 2, episode 7 of Watson, airing on CBS on Monday, November 24th at 10 PM Eastern Time. The photos show a reunion between father and son, and also offer a glimpse of Hamish observing Dr. Watson while he works.

This week on the show, Watson’s father asks for his help with a strange case: a young saxophone star named Annabelle is mysteriously losing consciousness, and it seems to be linked to the music she plays. The episode description reveals Annabelle’s condition worsens, forcing John to deal with his complicated relationship with his father if he wants to help her.

Clarke Peters is probably most famous for his role as Detective Lester Freamon in the acclaimed HBO series The Wire. He’s also well-known for his work in Spike Lee’s Da 5 Bloods, which led to a BAFTA nomination, and as Albert Lambreaux in the HBO drama Treme. He’s appeared in many other popular projects, including John Wick, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, and the biopic Harriet, starring Cynthia Erivo.

Peters will be acting alongside Eve Harlow, Peter Mark Kendall, Inga Schlingmann, Ritchie Coster, and Rochelle Aytes. Tika Sumpter, known for her roles in Gossip Girl and the Sonic the Hedgehog movies, will appear in a recurring role as Laila Bynum, a doctor specializing in children’s cancer who develops a romantic connection with John.

A highlight of the CBS show is its excellent casting. The medical drama hasn’t been on air for long, but it’s already made some unexpected and exciting choices, like casting comedian Randall Park as Moriarty. Peters joins the show with a strong reputation from other TV work, and is expected to add more detail to the character of Watson’s history.
