Warframe for Nintendo Switch 2 to launch in 2026, new handheld gameplay shown with DLSS

In a recent livestream, Digital Extremes shared more information about the next story chapter for Warframe, called The Old Peace, and the accompanying side story, The Devil’s Triad.

During the recent Devstream, we showed off Warframe running on the Nintendo Switch 2 handheld, with DLSS technology turned on – you can see it here. The stream also confirmed that the Switch 2 version won’t be available this year. And for those interested in playing on mobile, a closed beta test for Warframe on Android will begin in November, and you can sign up to participate.

You can now play Warframe on PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, and iOS. An Android version is also planned for release soon.

During a special Halloween livestream, Digital Extremes shared more information about the next big story update for Warframe, called “The Old Peace,” which is coming in December. This update includes a side story called “The Devil’s Triad,” and is set to be the biggest release of the year for the game. Players can expect a full narrative experience, three new customizable frames (Protoframes) and skin options (Gemini Skins), a more in-depth relationship and romance system, and a new game mode called The Descendia. The stream also offered a first look at the Gyre Prime Warframe, improvements to the Focus School system, and announced a closed beta test for Warframe on Android in November. Finally, Digital Extremes hinted at the return of their annual TennoCon event on July 10-11, 2026.

According to Community Director Megan Everett, the team is taking a bold approach with these new characters, just as they did with the initial Protoframes. While players anticipated designs and stories inspired by the 80s or 2000s, the team opted for a gothic horror theme to surprise everyone. Seeing players react to the new Protoframes – whether it’s their first encounter, discovering the voice actors, or planning customizations for the Gemini skin – is incredibly rewarding. The team appreciates the community’s willingness to embrace these unexpected choices, and they hope players are prepared to unravel the mysteries surrounding these three new characters.
