Don’t worry just yet! Fall doesn’t officially end until December 21st, which means TaleWorlds still has time to release the War Sails expansion for Mount & Blade 2: Bannerlord. Originally planned for June, it was delayed back in May. Since then, they’ve been sharing small glimpses of the new content, leaving fans to guess what’s coming. Now, a new theory has emerged, sparked by a single image from War Sails.
War Sails might let you swing two swords
Yesterday, October 20th, TaleWorlds posted an intriguing image on X (formerly Twitter). The artwork features a soldier who appears to be from the Nord faction, posing with two swords. Fans are now speculating this could hint at the return of dual-wielding combat in the upcoming War Sails DLC.

The upcoming War Sails expansion is packed with content, including naval battles, a new faction and units, varied siege types, and a larger map. While players are excited about the ships, there could be even more hidden features. Some speculate, for example, that Vikings may have historically used two axes in combat.
Most Viking warriors fought with a single weapon – typically a sword, spear, or axe. Axes were particularly popular because they were less expensive to produce than swords, yet still very effective in battle. However, the image of Vikings fighting with two axes simultaneously is largely a myth popularized in modern stories. While some Vikings may have carried a small throwing axe in addition to their main weapon, wielding two full-sized axes at the same time would have been difficult and unrealistic in actual combat.

You often see Vikings depicted with two axes in movies and games, which looks impressive but isn’t really how they fought in reality. Since this is a video game, though, it would be really cool to be able to wield weapons in both hands – we’re not sure if that feature will be added in the upcoming downloadable content, but we’ll find out soon. The latest promotional images for Mount & Blade on X (formerly Twitter) still indicate that the War Sails expansion is planned for release in Fall 2025, so there’s a chance we’ll get some exciting news soon.
