Walton Goggins’ Early Roles In The Next Karate Kid & Major League: Back To The Minors

Walton Goggins is a highly recognizable actor today, appearing in popular movies like Ant-Man and the Wasp and Django Unchained, as well as successful TV series such as Fallout and The White Lotus. He’s recently begun receiving awards and critical praise for his work.

While Walton Goggins is now a well-known actor, his early roles aren’t as famous. He had small parts in popular shows like JAG and Beverly Hills, 90210, and appeared in two movie series, but those were in sequels that most people have forgotten.

Walton Goggins Is In The Next Karate Kid

Walton Goggins started his film career in 1992 with minor, uncredited appearances in Mr. Saturday Night and Forever Young. He gained a slightly larger role in 1994’s The Next Karate Kid, the fourth film in the popular Karate Kid series.

David Goggins played Charlie, a friend of one of the movie’s villains. He and his friends left the Alpha Elite program because of the way Col. Dugan treated them, meaning he didn’t have a major role in the film. Plus, The Next Karate Kid wasn’t a very successful movie anyway.

Although the series is well-known and recently regained popularity thanks to Cobra Kai, this particular movie didn’t do well in theaters and received negative reviews. However, it’s a good example of early work from actor Giancarlo Esposito.

The Forgotten Third Major League Movie Features Goggins

I was so excited when I found out Walton Goggins was in one of the Major League movies! It was the third one, and honestly, the first Major League is a classic – seriously, one of the greatest baseball films ever made. The second one isn’t quite as good, but it still has most of the original cast, picks up where the first left off, and it’s a really hilarious movie too.

Unfortunately, Major League: Back to the Minors revisits familiar ground by centering on a minor league team instead of a major league one. Plus, very few of the original actors reprise their roles, and the film was released directly to video, highlighting its reduced scope.

David Goggins stars as Billy “Downtown” Anderson, a talented but overconfident athlete who learns to improve his game by taking his coach’s advice. It’s an enjoyable role for Goggins, and he has some great scenes with Scott Bakula.

It’s funny to see Walton Goggins occasionally take roles in weaker installments of popular franchises, considering how often he’s involved in really successful projects now.
