The new movie *Black Phone 2* comes out in theaters this weekend (October 17th). If you’re already planning to own it, Walmart is taking preorders for a special 4K Blu-ray Steelbook edition. The Steelbook has a striking design featuring Ethan Hawke’s character, “The Grabber,” on the front and a phone booth on the back. Both sides use a cloudy gray color scheme, which seems to tie into the movie’s dreamlike and frightening atmosphere.
You can now pre-order ‘The Black Phone 2’ on Blu-ray and 4K Blu-ray at Walmart. A special Limited Edition Steelbook is available for $44.25, while the standard 4K Blu-ray costs $32.75 and the 1080p Blu-ray is $30. Universal is also releasing a 2-movie collection of both ‘Black Phone’ films on 4K Blu-ray for $52.75, which is cheaper than buying each movie individually.
The Black Phone Film Series
Want to refresh your memory before seeing the Black Phone sequel? Amazon and Walmart are selling the Blu-ray and DVD combo pack for just $10. You might also see *V/H/S 85* listed – it includes a short film called Dreamkill, which is part of the same universe as the Black Phone movies. Both Black Phone films and Dreamkill were directed by Scott Derrickson, who co-wrote them with C. Robert Cargill.

Four years after the first movie, *Black Phone 2* brings back Mason Thames as Finney Blake, Madeline McGraw as Gwen Blake, and Ethan Hawke as the villain, The Grabber. This time, Gwen is haunted by unsettling dreams featuring a ringing phone. The horror sequel has been well-received by critics. The original *Black Phone* scored an 81% on Rotten Tomatoes, while the sequel currently has a 74% rating. Both films were made by Blumhouse Productions and Crooked Highway and distributed by Universal Pictures.
Read “The Black Phone” Short Story
The movie *The Black Phone* is adapted from a short story by Joe Hill, a celebrated horror author known for *Locke & Key*. The story first appeared in Hill’s 2005 collection, *20th Century Ghosts*, which I highly recommend. For those who have already enjoyed the original story, or are new to it, there’s a special 20th Anniversary Edition of *20th Century Ghosts* that would pair nicely with the Limited Edition Steelbook of *Black Phone 2*.
