Despite only appearing briefly without dialogue in the Masters of the Universe trailer, there’s a strong possibility that Battlecat, He-Man’s loyal companion, will be able to talk in the new movie. The trailer gave us a quick look at the CGI version of Battlecat, who often fights alongside He-Man in the world of Eternia.
Just like He-Man gets his power from the Power Sword, so does Battlecat. When Prince Adam raises the sword and becomes He-Man, his scared companion, Cringer, transforms into the mighty Battlecat.
As a big fan, I’ve been wondering how they’d handle Battlecat in the new movie, since the original series never showed us how Cringer actually turned into him. Usually, Cringer can talk and interact with everyone, which is a huge part of his personality. I was a little worried they might leave that out of the live-action film, but thankfully, it sounds like they’re keeping that key element of the character intact!
Masters Of The Universe Teases Cringer’s Ability To Talk
The Masters of Universe trailer immediately establishes the fantastical nature of Eternia, and one example Adam gives is “talking tigers.” This is a clear nod to the character Cringer, who frequently talks and interacts with other characters like Orko and Adam in the original cartoon.
Currently, we don’t know who will voice the cat, but a recent clue suggests the cat will have lines to say in Masters of the Universe.
This is encouraging news for fans who want the new He-Man series to stay true to the original stories. Considering the trailer’s impressive visuals – like Skeletor’s intimidating look and the many familiar characters – it seems likely the show won’t shy away from including a talking animal, just like in the classic version of Masters of the Universe.
Will Cringer Appear In Masters Of The Universe?
One thing that really caught my attention in the trailer was Battlecat. It got me thinking about how they’ll handle his backstory and, more specifically, his voice. In the original cartoon, Battlecat can talk, but he rarely does – he’s mostly a powerful, silent force. Cringer, on the other hand, is much more vocal. So, it seems logical that in the movie, Cringer will be the one doing most of the talking, while Battlecat will remain largely a creature of action, letting his strength do the speaking for him. It’s a smart way to differentiate them and stay true to the spirit of the characters.
There’s a possibility that Battlecat, the alter ego of Cringer, might appear even when Adam hasn’t transformed into He-Man. The trailer shows Battlecat present before Adam’s transformation, which is unusual since he normally only appears after Adam becomes He-Man. This would be a significant departure from the original story.
