VTuber sics legal team on Twitch after platform mistakenly bans her for a month

The well-known VTuber ‘MOTHERv3’ expressed frustration towards Twitch when they mistakenly suspended her for fraudulent activities. Despite creating more than 50 appeals, it took them a month to lift the ban.

Instead of speaking in her own voice like most Virtual YouTubers (VTubers), MOTHERv3 is unique. She interacts with chatters using text-to-speech technology, which reinforces her on-stream persona as an “artificial intelligence entity.

She amassed more than 107,000 dedicated followers due to her distinctive live streams and striking virtual persona. However, unexpectedly, her Twitch channel was suspended during its peak earning month.

mother experienced a permanent ban from Twitch during the stretch between late December and late January; a timeframe she claims is especially profitable for any streamer using the platform.

She pointed out that December earns her significantly more than all the summer months put together. However, she felt let down by Twitch’s ineptitude.

VTuber furious after Twitch mistakenly bans her for a month

It seems that Mother’s streaming channel has been erroneously banned on suspicion of fraud. This could be because someone who had given bits, subscriptions, or other in-stream purchases returned the charge unjustly.

Yet, upon Mother contacting her bank to check the transactions, she was reassured they had been settled, and requested her bank to intervene with Twitch on her behalf to sort out the situation.

Initially, when she reached out to Twitch’s Help Center to resolve the issue and make things right, they swiftly dismissed her appeal within a short span of time. Later on, upon sending another email in an attempt to reconsider the ban, she received an automated response suggesting she contact Twitch’s Help Center again – which she had already done previously.

Exasperated, the mother once more penned an email to seek assistance from a real person, but instead, she was instructed to file an appeal via their Appeals Portal and received a questionnaire in return. For several weeks, she asserted that this pattern persisted.

In her January 21 broadcast, she explained that over the past few weeks, she’s been submitting tickets inquiring about her ban, only to be told they couldn’t provide more details on the reason for the ban, closing the ticket, and then sending her a survey.

For the past month, Mom has sent more than 50 support requests to Twitch. It wasn’t until her lawyers intervened that her account ban was lifted in just a week’s time.

“Isn’t that funny?” she said, clearly furious. “I thought that was just funny, is all.”

While I was streaming, a viewer mentioned that they’d been billed for my channel subscription renewal even though I’m currently banned – rest assured, I’m investigating the matter right away.

On numerous occasions, VTubers like chromuchromu have experienced frustration and bewilderment following Twitch bans. In October 2024, for instance, chromuchromu was taken aback when she received a ban for being deemed ‘youth risky,’ even though her content was clearly marked as adult-oriented (18+). This incident occurred in the same month that Twitch implemented an update on its attire policy, causing quite a stir within the VTubing community.
