A teacher is getting a lot of attention online after reporting a student for stealing her Hello Kitty Funko Pop figure from the classroom. She has filed a police report about the incident.
Teachers often personalize their classrooms with different themes and decorations. Some choose designs based on their own interests, while others creatively incorporate elements from the lessons they’ll be teaching that year.
A Texas school teacher, Ms. Dawson, recently transformed her classroom with a Hello Kitty theme. She even added some of her own Hello Kitty collectibles, like a clock and Funko Pop figures, from her personal collection.
A Funko Pop figure, a gift from a former student, was stolen from her desk back in September. She’s been sharing the story online, hoping to get it back, and jokingly refers to the theft as a “kidnapping” because the item is so meaningful to her.

Around mid-October, Dawson announced she’s now working with the police after taking a short break. She filed a report after viewers informed her the Funko Pop figure was worth nearly $300, in addition to its personal meaning.
In a video that’s been viewed over 15 million times, she explained that she was finally filing a police report after being away for a few days. She’d left a substitute teacher in her place and told her students that if they simply returned her Hello Kitty desk decoration to its original spot, no one would realize she’d been gone.
I still haven’t gotten it back. I’ve already received a report about my students’ behavior with the substitute teacher, and now my Hello Kitty item is also missing, so I’m finally filing a police report. It’s upsetting that I don’t feel safe and comfortable in my classroom anymore, which is how I’ve felt for the past few years.
Dawson described the situation as “heartbreaking” and said she’d never gone through anything like it before. She explained that the item wasn’t valuable to her monetarily, but held sentimental value because a student had given it to her six years prior.
The teacher hasn’t followed up on the report, but has gotten additional information from students, coworkers, and people who watched it.
TikTok users are praising Mr. Dawson, even calling him a “literal angel,” for continuing to give rewards to his students after something was stolen. One commenter wrote, “You’re a better person than me – I’d probably just create a difficult test in response!”
