Viral parrot explores the Bahamas in a custom built bird submarine

A parrot named Bebe is becoming an internet sensation! His owner, Steven Lawyer, built a tiny submarine just for him and took him snorkeling in the Bahamas. It’s obvious Bebe isn’t your average pet – he clearly loves adventure!

The unique submarine was constructed from a transparent plastic container, modified with two air connections and a one-way valve. It’s powered by a 3000psi paintball tank secured underneath, and balanced in the water using carefully adjusted lead weights.

To guarantee everyone’s safety, Lawyer placed an oxygen monitor at the front of the container, which would sound an alarm if oxygen levels became too low.

“I wanted to be sure our beloved Bebe had plenty of fresh air,” Lawyer explained.

Before venturing into the ocean, the team thoroughly tested their equipment, even doing a practice run with Bebe in a bathtub! Once in the Bahamas, they were extremely cautious about the ocean’s conditions.

According to Lawyer, the coral reef where they were snorkeling was in a calm, familiar harbor without any dangerous currents. Because of this, they were confident the swimmer wouldn’t be pulled out to sea.

An adrenaline junkie parrot

Amazingly, deep sea exploration might be Bebe’s tamest hobby.

Our dog, Bebe, loves to accompany us on all our adventures,” said Lawyer. “Every year, he joins us for a week-long bike ride – it’s 500 miles long with around 20,000 other riders – and he’s become something of a local celebrity!

But Bebe’s biggest adventure is definitely skydiving. He’s already done 15 jumps since last fall! He bravely jumps out of a special container attached to an instructor named Lawyer. Around 1,000 feet in the air, Lawyer opens the container, letting Bebe glide out and joyfully follow the parachute down to the ground.
