The story of the seven dogs who became famous for running away across China has taken an unexpected turn – they were actually chasing their own van!
Videos of a group of dogs running playfully through roads and fields became popular online on March 16th.
Okay, so at first everyone thought these dogs were stolen – maybe by people who ran a dog meat shop, which is awful. But turns out, they were total escape artists! They somehow broke free and actually traveled about 10.5 miles all the way back home. Seriously, these pups are amazing!
According to a volunteer at the Bitter Coffee Stray Dog Base, a person running a dog meat shop is believed to have stolen the terriers.
A recent investigation by the City Evening News, a local newspaper, revealed the dogs were just going through a normal period of wanting to reproduce.
No thieves, just thirsty doggos
The report indicates the sudden increase in activity happened soon after a female German shepherd began her heat cycle.
Turns out, my dogs didn’t get stolen! I was so worried, but I just talked to the City Evening News and they said my dogs actually ran away on their own. What a relief!
She said her family has several dogs that usually wander around the village, so it wasn’t unusual for them to go off on their own.
A heartwarming story is circulating online about seven dogs who escaped from those who stole them and found their way back to their owners. The dogs, believed to have travelled around 10 miles together, were led by a determined corgi, navigating across highways and fields to return home.

She thinks they likely left on the 13th or 14th, explaining that her German shepherd, Sibao, was in heat. This caused a quick escalation, as other dogs in the neighborhood started chasing after Sibao.
Once Sibao started her heat cycle, several dogs were drawn to her. We’re not sure exactly how, but they all ran off together, eventually ending up on a major road about two and a half to three miles from the village.
It wasn’t a story about a daring escape or strong friendship, but rather about a long and difficult journey driven by a deep desire for connection, regardless of the sacrifices made.
