In a new development, Paris-based Pulsar Content has taken on “The Velazquez Mystery,” a project that features acting legend Vincent Lindon in the lead role. Notably, this is the first time directorial venture for esteemed French producer Stéphane Sorlat.
As a captivated movie reviewer, I delve into my latest cinematic adventure: “The Velázquez Mystery,” the riveting third installment in José Luis López Linares’ documentary feature trilogy. Following the enchanting journey through Bosch’s dreams and the intriguing Carriere-Goya-Buñuel narrative, this film invites us to unravel questions that have long puzzled the master painter Velázquez himself.
One question that arises is why Velázquez, who was acclaimed as “the greatest painter in history” by Salvador Dali, tends to be overlooked in general recollections.
In this revised sentence, I’ve aimed to maintain the original meaning while making it more conversational and easier to read.
In the words of Pablo Picasso, Francis Bacon, and Dalí, the enigma of Velázquez’s genius is explored in “The Velazquez Mystery.” As Sorlat explained to EbMaster, Velázquez was not only technically brilliant but also revolutionized the art world by immersing himself within his paintings and crafting intricate layers of meaning.

According to Pablo Picasso, Francis Bacon, and Dalí, “The Velazquez Mystery” delves into the genius of Velázquez. As Sorlat shared with EbMaster, Velázquez was not only technically gifted but also transformed the rules of art by becoming a part of his paintings and constructing complex webs of meaning.
Using water as a symbol representing travel and introspection, this movie journeys across time and geography, fearlessly combining historical accounts, modern perspectives, and musings on the enduring impact of an exceptional artist, according to its summary.
I’m excited to unveil this captivating documentary that embarked me on an extraordinary voyage, guided by the evocative voice of Vincent Lindon, to delve into the life and work of a famed 17th-century artist. I have no doubt that art enthusiasts will find themselves transported not only through time but also through the realms of art,” expressed Gilles Sousa, founder of Pulsar Content.
The movie titled ‘The Velázquez Mystery’ is created by Mondex & Cie, the same team responsible for the entire trilogy, as well as ‘Searching for Ingmar Bergman’, a film under Cannes Classics, and Rodrigo Sorogoyen’s ‘The Realm’. The release date for this film in France is set for February 26th, handled by Bodega Films.
The initial installation of the Prado painting series titled “Bosch: The Garden of Dreams,” helmed by José Luis López-Linares who is known for “Storm the Skies” and “El pollo, el pez y el cangrejo real,” earned approximately $448,329 globally, primarily from France.
In 1986, Sorlat established BAC Films along with Jean Labadie. Since then, he’s taken charge of or shared leadership in film production and distribution ventures in France (Paradis Films and currently Mondex et Cie), Spain (Mate Production, Zahorimedia), and Japan. He has worked with directors like Theo Angelopoulos, Régis Wargnier, and Cédric Klapisch on their projects.
